I put mine in myself, but it was replacing another after market cd player. And once I put one in that was replacing nothing at all.. Should be able to match up the wires and wire it up.

Why don't someone get a wiring harness from an earlier vehicle and see if it works? I don't know if/when they changed the radios. Is that radio installed in an older Jeep or another Jeep? Chances are, the harness has not changed.

anyway, going to WalMart and picking up one just to see if it would fit would be easy and it can be taken back so no money lost there, only time. Of course you would have to remove the old radio but you are doing that anyway so.....

I would never cut wires and hardwire unless I had to, especially for older vehicles that a wiring harness is cheaply available for.

The link above is very expensive, so theres more to it than first glance.

The above states 2004 and up, so why not get a wiring harness for a 2004? It should work if they are compatible....

I don't know if the wiring changed between the TJ and the JK, but the units are physically quite different.

I've seen stereo adapter harnesses at both WalMart & AutoZone. They're for the TJ
BUT
You could pick one up and see if the configuration is correct. If not, both have liberal return policies.

Maybe? 2004 seem to have a four or seven speaker config. not sure if it matters.

TJ and JK wiring is quite different. TJ's still had a traditional electrical system, the JK's use a CAN BUS system which basically means that individual wires are used for several functions. Cant tell you specificall how this related to the JK radio, but i do know that the PCM wont take kindle to cutting and splicing wires in the dash, including the radio....thats why the adapter harnesses are expensive.
