Diesel Wrangler??

I hear that Jeep is releasing a Diesel version of the JK overseas... Any chance of it being sold in the states, if so anyone know what kind of horsepower it might have??

I almost traded in my TJ for an Nissan Xterra yesterday cuz my jeep just doesn't have the horsepower I want and I'm not spending the $$$$ to swap out the engine... After much deliberation I decided I would miss the jeep too much...

They've had diesel Jeeps in europe for years, from what I understand, Daimler Chrysler claims it'll be too expensive to bring their european diesels upto U.S. EPA standards. That doesn't make alot of sense to me since they could just use the engine they had in the Liberty.

They can't just transplant the liberty engine, it's a shame, and the reason being is that the diesel regs for pass. cars and light trucks are changing to stricter standards in 2008.

THe only reason that they dropped the CRD Liberty is because of the larger restrictions on diesel smog output. It would have been too expensive to remake the motor to comply. Although we will be seeing a CRD Grand Cherokee with a 3.0L MB deisle some time real soon. THey might just stick the same one in the JK.

They went into effect for this year, 2007, but not fully untill 2008.

Chevy will drop the Duramax and go with a Detroit. The Cummins will go from 5.9L to 6.7L. and Ford is going with a bigger POwerStroke or a different motor all together, I'm not sure which though.

How does that stop the use of the Liberty engine? if they downgrade the engine for the Liberty it would still work in a Wrangler. or are they discontinuing the diesel Liberty?
How did it stop the use of the Liberty engine when it came out in the Liberty in the first place?

EDIT: ahh never mind, I didn't know the Liberty was discontinued. Bloody godsforsaken EPA could mess up a wet dream

As bad ass as that looks, its just more money than I want to spend... $4000k, then I have to pay someone to install it... I'll just wait till my I6 dies and put in a V8 But from what I hear that'll take awhile! (87k miles on it now)... Or if they put that 3.0L diesel into the JK, whichever comes first
