Difference between 2010 and 2011

Are there real difference between the 2010 and 2011 wrangler Unlimited models.
I can see new gearbox, is it better?
Also the new steering wheel.
Are there any known drawbacks in the 2011?

To my knowledge, the only major difference is the interior. The 2011 interior has been completely re-designed.

New 2011 exterior colors. New optional color keyed hardtop for the Sahara model.

Otherwise, exterior, engine, transmissions, etc., are all the same as last year.

Are these differences relevant ?
Are they really useful?
If you can choose, would u buy the 2010 or the 2011 and why?

Interior, windshield graphics and body color hard tops.

New Car-like interior is the big change. Steering wheel has cruise, audio, hands free controls depending on the options. Mechanically things have remained the same. Gearbox is the same as well. New shifter knob and boot but it's the same tranny.

Obviously the interior, color hard top, etc...Several lesser known differences
  • The back tailgate will stay open when opened all the way...as opposed to being a free swinging tailgate.
  • The trunk compartment under the mat, now has bolt holes to hold roof and door bolts
  • (no one really notices this one) the back windshield of the hardtop is about 2" wider. This is how people can tell real quick between a 2010 and a 2011.
  • I believe the lug nuts switched to metric dimensions.

I took a 2011 Sahara Tan and a 2010 Rescue Green (two different dealerships) for rides. The 2011 I just didnt like the interior. Like others have said, its too car like... almost too luxorious IMHO. My wife actually said the seat fabric wasn't jeep like either. I think the steering wheel is actually smaller (yah I know its different than the old ones but I think they also shrunk it down). The dealer told me that steering wheel is going to be standard for most 2011 model Chrysler Dodge vehicles. Personally I dislike steering wheel controls and here you can't get a 2011 without.

I bought the 2010. got a great deal too becuase it was the last 2010 and they wanted to move it - I got leather, Satellite radio, remote start and paid just under $30K (Canadian). The 2011, the dealer wasnt going anywhere below $34K CAD and it did not have leather, satellite or remote - It did have the tow package though that I did not get.

Negative, they already have been. My '09 has 19mm lug nuts.

I just bought a 2010, and my Mom bought a 2011. As said before, the big difference is the interior and the package tray in the back that holds the hard top bolts. I love my 2010 and could not beat it for the price, not to mention I love the tide blue color that you can't get on a 2011.

Daggo, thanks for the info, I went to buy lug nut locks but the dealer told me to wait until he made sure the 2010's would fit on 2011's. he thought they switched to metric this year. You may be sarcastic sometimes (extremely funn btw) but you always have good info

I just purchased my 2011/ was told from the dealer- its pretty much interior like quoted above.. The steering wheel is going to be the same in pretty much all jeeps now..

I really wanted a 2010 mountain, but the prices were the same - ( maybe 500 ) more for a 2011, I could not get any kind of break to buy the 2010.. I ended up with 2011 needless to say.. / i do love it ( my first jeep ) ( also - mountain - like the 2011's have black interior ) nice touch

I think if I could have saved a little more, I would have been just as happy or happier with the 2010(mountain) - since it would have had the Rubicon look already..
and the dark blue is not available this year.

The dealer put locks on for me NC / 2011 also comes with a hardtop storage - stays up against the back seat

1 more thing, I cannot get over the "WAVE" everyone waves back!!! its amazing,
I guess Jeep, and (bike)harley's are the only other people with that committment

Hey, anyone know the part number of that package tray in the back and will it fit in the 07-2010 model? Probably would. I would like one of those for the door parts.

My 2010 came with one, and yes it fits on in the 2010 model
It only holds the two front parts of the hard top.
I can check the part number on the package and get back to u as I did not use it yet, my jeep is less than one month old

We're talking about two different things I think. I too got the bag for the two hard tops, but there is a tray that goes in that little spot under the trunk area and it has holes and slots to hold the door bolts and stuff like that.

There was another thread somewhere on the forum that discussed the bolt tray and I think the consensus was that it won't fit in earlier models.

The soft top improvement was on the 2010 and carried over to 2011. So it's not a difference between 2010 and 2011, it's a difference between 2009 and 2010.

Nobody has noticed the Jeep symbols on the windshield of the 2011?

From the outside, look above the rearview mirror. There is a Jeep grill.
From the outside, look at bottom left corner. Where there is the black band, there is a little JK climbing a hill.

My dealer pointed them out.

I can hear the footsteps running as 2011 owners grab a flashlight and run outside...

i wasnt talking about the cable system vs the drip rails on the new 2010 soft tops. if you look at 2011 you will see that there is no more plastic piece where the sail panel connects to on the tail gate. the body now wraps right around and the wholw sail panel attaches to the body of the jeep...not half and half

Everyone can laugh but I love the heated seats and new interior. I bought a 2011 because the price wasn't that much different and thought it was a better investment. Three year old rubicons were still 28,000 and they wouldn't budge. All the jeeps are awesome it's just a jeep thing.

Hmmm, I'm going to have to check that out now.

I'm pretty sure all 2011 owners have noticed that. It's no big secret.

What, exactly, do you want to know? It's the same as the 2010.
