I am looking at Jeep builder and it appears there is a JKU Willys Wheeler 4x4 for $32k and change, and there is a JKU Willys Wheeler W 4x4 for $34k and change.

What is the difference (besides $2k)?

Sorry, just found the "Compare Models" button.

It appears the W comes standard with the power convenience group (door locks, Windows, and mirrors) which is not available on the non W.

For $2,000? Damn. I thought Vw was bad with their package pricing...

I agree with this guy ^

I hope the statement "nothing worse than locking your tailgate" is exaggeration, but if it's not, you've got a great life.

In all fairness though, I've never actually locked my Jeep. I figure, if someone wants in, they are getting in.

As discussed, the main difference between the 23K/24K and 23W/24W packages is the power convenience group and the more complex wiring harness that goes with it.

One thing that should be noted, though, is that the wiring harness is a lot easier to get from the factory than to try and install later via aftermarket stuff. So if you want heated seats, power windows, etc, you're better off with a W package. You can always swap full, powered doors for half/tube doors later - going the other way around is quite difficult.

... that said, I went for the 23K package on mine because I really only wanted half doors.

Also, I see that you're looking at JKU, so it doesn't matter to you, but for 2-door folks: W package adds air conditioning too, if I recall correctly. (AC is standard on all JKU models.)

Yes and no. Adding power lock actuators opened and closed with a fob, which are often thrown in as freebies with alarms, and whihc are cheap self installs don't need the harness. while obviously airbags do.

and somewhere else I did a full breakdown on the WW s WWW for JK, yes, the actual premium on JK and JKU is about $800 for someone who wants AC on JK WW.

At the time the base WW looked perfect for me, but the fact that I had to effectively spend $1300 to get it instead of $500 tuned me off of willys all together since it was only $500 to add to a rubicon. In short if you want side airbags on a JK WW, the rubicon is $800 closer than your calcualions might show

as someone who got the power windows/locks/mirrors on my JKR, I have to say in hindsight it was a waste of money... most of the time, the top is off, the doors are off, and except for the really cold frozen arctic wasteland months I have soft doors for when it rains, that means I get to "enjoy" my power option maybe 2-3 months of the year...
not really a very good RoI?

and locking the jeep just seems so pointless anytime of the year...

I think I would of preferred to have the extra little storage area year round...

I have the Willys Wheeler W and the extra's over the standard Willys are Air Conditioning and the power convenience group. Air is a $1295 option and the power group is a $1595 option. The WW W package is $2100 more than the WW. I looked at it like I was getting $2890 worth of packages for $2100.

Hello Mopar. Do you have a 2-door or 4-door? Unless things have changed very recently, I believe you'll find that it's sort of just the opposite, as far as the math.

If you have a 2-door, then checking the WW-W box for $2100 only gets you AC and the ability to check the PCG box, but the PCG costs you the additional $1595. So you are actually paying 2100 more for just the A/C, a 1295 standalone option. But since you have PCG, it means your MSRP would be $3695 more than a WW ($2100 for WW-W package PLUS 1595 for PCG.) Which means you're getting $2890 worth of options for $3695, rather than for $2100.

Which is what we've all been complaining about since the WW was introduced in 2014. If you want PCG you have to pay a lot more for it than just the cost of the option.

Note: the above refers to 2-doors. 4-doors have AC as automatic no matter which models you get, WW or WW-W.

On my son's 2 door air conditioning was a 1295 option. His is the ww with air as the only option. My 4 door is a ww w with almost everything. I did look and I see what your saying the power group is an option on the 2 door so it does make it more expensive on those. Is it any wonder there is so much confusion and people posting questions here looking for help? It took me over two months of research and confusion to decide what I wanted. Also I finally realized I might not really know what I needed until I had one. So far we are happy with what we have.
