Different Antenna Replacement Option.

Looking to replace the long antenna on my new Wrangler, I ordered a 14" billet antenna from AntennaX. Good service and the antenna fit my Jeep using the correct adapter. Looked pretty good.

Yesterday I dropped into my local Harley Davidson dealership and spotted a replacement am/fm antenna for the Harley's. It's 19"s long, quite beefy, flexible and covered in rubber. Bought one, took it home and it was a direct replacement for the AntennaX.

Part Number is Am/Fm Shorty Antenna. 76388-08
There is an identical CB Antenna, so watch what you pick off the display.
And yes, they're pricey...$34 Can.

This is the Harley packaging.

Part of your problem will be finding the correct antenna adapter for your Jeep and this HD antenna. My adapter was in a selection AntennaX sent with the billet antenna. The adapter has to be a male 5/16" for the Jeep and a male 1/4" for the antenna. Both are coarse threads. I've scoured the internet for a source of the correct adapter.....to no avail. Let us know if you come up with a supply. I have a machinist friend who says he'll make me a few if I need them for friends.

Here's a photo showing the 1/4" adapter sticking out of the Jeep mount.

Here's a photo of the HD antenna installed on my Wrangler.

Looks good. Have you noticed any change in reception or sound quality. Looks like I have another mod on my list.

I live in a medium sized city. Didn't notice any loss of signal with the AntennaX or the HD shorty. Can't say what would happen as I head out of town. I really don't listen to am/fm anyway. Have the free Sirius option for a year and I've got a nice collection of music on a thumb drive that lives in my console. Simply a bling mod.

I think most of our Wranglers come with Sirius Sat radio these days, when that 1st year subscription runs out, we go back to am/fm.

As we know, some vehicles don't have antennas, they have wires embedded in their windshields.

I just did some Google-ing and there some alternatives to having an AM/FM antenna sticking up instead of the shorter antennas that clearly do not offer reception like the factory supplied unit.

Crutchfield was an easy find and they offer at 2 or 3 different options. Now to check out what their performance is like.

I wonder what could be done with the antenna mount if it's not needed?

Universal Antenna Hideaway AM/FM car antenna at Crutchfield.com

I tried this one it's on the shelf in my garage now. NG, I ended up extending my cable to the right rear roll bar and tucked the stock antenna into the roll bar cover. Used another trail badge emblem to cover the passenger fender hole. Nice and clean outside with good reception.

Very clever - I like it! I'm not a fan of the antenna and after having a stubby antenna on my Ford Raptor SVT (looked good but performance wasn't as good as the stock item). I'm going to keep this in mind.

I love this idea, how hard is it to get the antenna mount off? Do you get it from inside the fender?

Outside, unscrew antenna , carefully from bottom of bezel pop it off with small flat blade. Mine was stuck tight. Plastic crack easy and can scratch your paint too if you slip. Three bolts and the mount comes off. I would get the hidden antenna and adapter and try it first before you remove the oem antenna, cable and mount. I didn't like the reception with the hidden one, but it could be my area though.

yes, you can put blue painters tape around the antenna bezel so when you try prying off the plastic cover you don't scratch the paint
