Question Different Front/Back Bumpers

Hi All,

Is it a Jeep "faux pas" to have a front bumper that's a different brand than the rear? For example, if I wanted a Rugged Ridge rear and an AEV front. I'm curious because I am having trouble picking one brand that I like both bumpers.

Thanks for you opinions.

BTW-I am making this clear that I am "the wife" and this is not my husband asking such a ridiculous question.

Jen

good question - and very appropriate. it is really up to you. If you are doing the mod for styling and looks, it is probably inappropriate. If you are doing the mod for function and fit - do whatever you want, who cares what others think. Do what you need to do in order to fit your needs. Personally, I evaluate what I put on my rigs based on my intended use, the durability of the product and cost.

You can put anything you like on your jeep, it's your jeep. However, the real question is will you be ok with bumpers from two different makers in the long run on your jeep? If the answer is yes then

lol...I may be getting two different brands...I have a rr xhd front and stock rear because I can't decide what I want. but I don't think it's looked down upon or whatever to have non-matching brands.

Most rear bumpers are fairly boxy and nondescript as it is. Nothing wrong with different bumpers.

Jeepers shun phrases like faux pas. It's just bad form to speak Portuguese about Jeep matters.

Now, if you'd called it a "breach of etiquette"...

Since you are asking for opinions it is clear that others' approval is of primary consideration. You are going to be criticized immensely for having two brands and it will affect your sleep and wellbeing. If you go with one brand people will label you as an elitist mall-crawling scum and that too will affect your sleep and wellbeing. Let me suggest that you either sell your Jeep and quit while you are ahead or get whatever bumper you want then see a therapist for any OCD issues that might be causing problems in your life.

I never even considered going with the same manufacturer on the bumpers, its all about the use, style and look your going for.

To me it seems like replacing the front bumper adds some benefits like different lights, ability to use a winch, etc..

What are the benefits for replacing the rear bumper?

Rear tire carier, D ring mounts, and steel wont cave in like the stock one will when you back into a rock or ledge. Thats why I changed mine at least. Some folks do it just for looks.
I also have two difrent brands of bumpers.

The MAIN reason we are replacing the rear is because we have 35's and need a heavy duty tire carrier.

That makes me wonder, what is the weight capacity of the stock one? Is it already near capacity or can I put skis/bikes on it also?

Thanks to everyone for your opinions...it was all great advice. I think I'll get whatever bumper and rear I want no matter what brand. My husband and I had a discussion about this and whether or not the Jeep community would shun us if we had different types. Bottom line is that I really don't care if they are different...I love my Jeep and I have to pay for it!! Thanks again.

Go for it...Choose what ya want !! Your Jeep....
Each manufacturer has their own features....It's not like a pair of shoes ya know, it's a Jeep.
Besides, you can only see one end at a time... "BH"

I have the Smittybilt XRC MOD front but will go with the Ace rear with the tire carrier. Smitty is 3/16" and the Ace is 1/4". Smitty rear bumper with the tire carrier opens separately from the tailgate. Ace opens with the tailgate. Ace has light buckets in the pumper, Smitty does not. Ace hitch receiver tucks up better than Smitty. Smitty has burned me three times on orders. No more buying Smitty stuff ever.

Ace is the way to go for what I want. I still like the looks of the front Smitty Bumper though.

If someone has an issue with it then I will ask them for $34K. When they say why I will respond simply “When it’s your Jeep you can bitch about. Until then shut up.”

Just my 2cents worth

To state the obvious, "faux pas" is French not Portuguese, as is "etiquette".

Just sayin'

The stock tire carrier can only hold UP TO a 33" tire, and even then welds may pop. There are other options though for stand alone tire carriers that hold up to 37" tire OR Fab and AEV are 2 of them.

I am going to get a rear bumper for protection.

Wait until you are my age and by the time you walk from the back to the front, you will forget not only what bumper you have back there, but why you were walking in hte first place, so my answer is... What was the question again?

That's what I do too and if they don't have an issue with it and they drive a Toyota, I kick em in the nads.
