Differential fluid price?

What's the cost of the jk different fluid and quantity? Dealer wants 300 to change it out. I let them change oil since I can't get 6 quarts for much less than their 34$ price. But 300 seems ludicrous.

Thanks

It takes about 10 minutes and about $30. If you have a 3/8" ratchet(just ratchet, no sockets) and a catch pan you can change them yourself. It's super easy and hard to screw up. When filling you just keep pouring till it overflows. Just do it on flat ground

Robbery at its finest.

Down here (TX) Royal Purple 75W-90 GL4/GL5 runs about $22/qt. D30 takes ~2.5 pints, D44 takes ~4.75 pints. So, $88 for oil and a little time, you can do it yourself and save a bit.

Royal purple is probably the most expensive option. You can get a quart for about $6. 4 quarts are needed. The current user manual suggest 80W-90. (75w-140 in the rear for frequent towing). If you have the LSD trac-lok option you need an oil that says it has the LSD additive. Almost all of the brand do. I have heard that synthetic oils are more susceptible to seeping out because of smaller particles? It could be a BS clam.

If you change the oil frequently because of doing frequent deep water crossings you don't need the added longevity of a synthetic oil. Of course you would also want to extend your breathers to keep water out. http://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/ext...se-185089.html

With the write-up Project-JK.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Resource » Jeep JK Wrangler Maintenance Differential Fluid Change Write-Up I have a slight tip. I would first remove the drain plug and then the fill plug. The suction that way will slow down the oil spilling out some. It might help you keep your hand a bit cleaner. Of course be ready for it to squirt out an extra 6" when you pull out the second bolt.

This.

You can do both diffs for around $70 total. Very simple, very easy, you can't really mess anything up. Just unplug, drain, re-fill, and done.

Bam.
