Dirty Dog Netting or something similar

Got a black lab puppy a few months ago and he is starting to get a bit more daring in the back when the soft top windows are out. Is there any other type of netting out there that isn't $300+ that you guys would recommend? Or should I just bite the bullet and go with the Dirty Dog netting?

If you don't want to spend the money. Let your dog jump out in a somewhat controlled environment(no traffic and slow pace). My old golden did that when she was just a puppy. She hit the ground, rolled, whimpered, and learned her lesson. I could leave her in the Jeep with no top/doors without worry.

And before some snowflake comes in here and tells me how I was cruel to my dog. She lived to be almost 16yrs old. She was my "kid" and I would have saved her over most people(she never slept outside at night unless she wanted to......and I work nights). My point is.........Spend some time with your dog and train them. I don't think it's gotten to the point yet where you can't discipline them like you use to discipline kids....or has it?

If you don't train him, he'll just chew through the straps and be gone anyway.........kind of like these bad ass kids running around today with no respect.

I use the new CRES II HD from Smittybilt on my TJ, found it on Amazon one day for about $115.

Years ago my Rottweiler jumped out of the back of my S-10 going about 15mph through the neighborhood, only took that one time and she didn't do that anymore.:lmao:

I wouldn't just let your puppy jump out to teach it a lesson. I'm glad you want to do something to keep him/her in. I'd pay whatever price I have to in order to keep my dogs safe. Years ago I had a Dalmatian puppy and she jumped out of my S-10 pick-up; I was rolling at about 15 - 20 mph; she got her leg ran over and it had to be amputated. I had to ride in the back of the truck holding pressure on the artery so she wouldn't bleed to death, WHICH she almost did.

Do what you have to in order to keep you puppy safe!!!

Safari Straps are another great option... but pricey as well. I got a nice set of Safari Straps for the 4 door from a fellow forum member for less than $300. Take a quick look through the classified section on this site and see if anyone has some listed (I'll look right after I post this). I think the quality on both the Dirty Dog and Safari Straps are hard to beat.

I also use a short (~3ft) leash and harness, attached to the bottom/middle of the rear seat even with the netting for added security.

** Not sure if you have JK or JKU, but here's a listing from a while back. Not sure if it is still available**

I guess it depends on how much you love your dog and how much you paid for it. I know that labs aren't cheap and vet bills can get crazy expensive.
I have dirty dog products and they work well, but so does a collar and a short piece of rope. It depends on your personal style, but I wouldn't let my dog bounce around loose - the cat is another story though.......

I bought DirtyDog netting a few weeks ago and love it. I have two lab mixes and now I don't have to worry about my precious cargo!
