Discount Tire Direct + Forum Discounts

I needed another set of different tires then the OEM/JKUR (by the way they are great off road) but with snow/ice coming soon, I pulled the pin with DTD, best deal/price after lots of shopping. The offered several discounts including this forum. Beat the competition by a good bit, it is amazing what a little friendly phone conversation can accomplish.

Due to where I live, a long and steep road that will soon (we are supposed to get snow tomorrow) be covered by snow/ice for the next 5 months, it was best to have another set of tires and wheels. I looked at just winter tires but this 2 mile road is not exactly paved and felt winter tires would likely puncture.

Selection was Duratrac with black wheels; I also have a set on my F150 and no complaints on getting home or during my hunting/camping adventures.

I rather knew that this new jeep would cost more then it costs. I found dealing with DTD rather pleasant, just passing it along.

I just purchased a set of wheels and tires from them a few weeks ago. Great deal. Very happy.

Ah. Ok.

They have a lot of discounts and rebates going right now. Some end in a few days. Guess I'll be pulling the trigger soon. Was online all evening getting prices.

You get $50 off any order for being a member. You have to order five tires or wheels to receive the additional $50.

Thanks for the information -- about to buy some upgrades myself. And hoping for not too much snow; I'm supposed to be camping near Kenosha Pass tomorrow night.

They ship to your door mounted and balanced free. They can do the tpms if you order it. I got mine from them and was very happy with the process

If your going to Kenosha Pass, you will see snow however it will be decent Saturday abet muddy. I was up in the flattops last week and some light snow and interesting mud holes.

As far as discounts I received at DTD, it is best to decide what you want and just give them a call, just talking can do a lot. There is always some sort of specials, rebates. I was given the Forum discount of $50, some consideration of being a firefighter (State employee), their on-line discount and rebate of $70 from Goodyear I did on-line in about 15 minutes. The one thing that swung me more then the price was there are Discount Tires all over the US, very easy to get serviced under their warranty certificates. If one tire fails, they will supposedly ship a new one directly to me or a store to have mounted.

This was the first time to do this on-line vs. sitting at a tire shop. The tires come fully mounted, TPMS installed, forced balanced and ready to swap out. So with new wheels (black), Tires balanced and using our discounts it was not too far off from going to a store and paying for all the extars of just tires being mounted.

The tires will be here next week and so too will probably be the weather once winter sets in.

Suggestion is to research what you want and put in cart to give you a base number.....figure out what you want and then call, being pleasant in dealing with others can pay off, the phone sales folks seem to have a little more latitude in closing the sale.

It also helped with determining back spacing on the wheels since their data base is helpful to everything to tires sizes, stance to air pressure.

tires arrived

arrived today by UPS, so 5 days from the order, they are well packaged and with possible snow end of the week may install tomorrow. by the way, I did receive the discount on the 4, has TPMS installed and forced balanced, all you need to do is ask for consideration.

My OEM Rubi are 255/75/17, these are 265/70/17-C and thinner is good for snow, they are about 1" taller by the eyeball test. Will switch back to M/T in April in time for offroad early camping season.

I do wish DTD would state clearly what the backspace is on each rim.

Ordered my 35s and wheels last week. Will be a bit as the wheels were at the manufacturer so they needed to be shipped to DTD first for mounting.

No biggie. Still trying to line up a buyer for my current shoes.

I know it's a little off topic but does anyone have any idea what the markup on tires is? What do these shops pay for them as a % of the sale price. ie 25%, 50% over their cost?

Another vote for DTD from me. DTD put together a great price for me (including the Wrangler Forum discount) on Cooper AT3 285/70 17s, but they said it would take 2 weeks for them to come in. They suggested I visit a local Discount Tire store and give them the price quote. The stores, technically, don't offer the Wrangler Forum discount (you only get it by calling DTD), but they matched the price for me anyway, and my tires should be in within 3-5 days. They even gave me a rebate to cover the sales tax, which I wouldn't have had to pay if I ordered them online.

Give DTD a call. The folks are smart and they can definitely work with you to get a good deal.

If you call them, they will give you both back spacing and what type of stance you wanted, the sales guy I was talking too was either very knowledgable or had a great data base to look at. I chose closer to factory as I get enough rocks hitting the hinges as it is and...on some tight trails wider is not always better.

The only thing I had not planned on was the wheels require a alan wrench for the cap, did come with a full set of Gorrilla locking nuts which makes this tire almost theft proof.

^THIS is what I was curious about! I was wondering if you could bypass the sales tax by ordering online. That alone will save me almost $300! Gonna call and get a quote online and see if my local store can match it!

So when you order online do you automatically get the tire protection that the local guys sell?

DTD quoted me $275 for TPS sensors as part of a five wheel and tire package. You can get them on eBay for about $130.

My tires were shipped free (nothing is really free) with no sales tax, that is a big deal vs. buying at a store. The TPMS sensors were $152 for four so for five that should be @$190.

Just call them and ask the questions, get any discounts allowed and get a OTD quote. Pretty easy.

Give them a call or ask what will fit. Unlike many places, the reps know what will work for you.

As for TPMS they were $55 per tire and stated that if I had stock wheels I could just take them to a local place to replace them in new tires/wheels. I bought them anyway due to the pita of lugging my stocks around and selling the used stocks with them in there already balanced, i got my money back.

I used them for the first time in July (DTD) and did some research online and they BEAT the lowest price I found. Plus gave me discounts, no sales tax, and because i bought wheels and tires, they balanced them free. I only bought 4, and last month had the funds for my spare. Their warranty for road hazard is cheap as well. The people there are knowledgable, friendly, and I got a great product cheaper than locally. I will use them again!
