Discounttiredirect.com

Hey guys and gals. Has anyone gotten tires or know anyone that has gotten tires from this place? They are the only place I can find the tires with the size I want for a good price. I'm just worried the quality. I've heard that some discount tire places sell tires with cheaper quality. Am I being paranoid? Should I pull the trigger and buy them?
BTW I'm looking @ the BFG TKO 295/75/16
Thanks

If you read enough stuff online your bound to hear about them getting their tires illegally from another planet too. I have never heard any thing like that in all my tire researching and buying. I haven't bought from them yet but are getting close to getting a set through eBay with them because of the free shipping and no tax. Any minute now the DT reps on here will be by to offer there input.

If you do buy online and have a problem, I imagine you can take your tire/s to a local discount tires and get it taken care of. Would be good to know if this is true?

Have you checked out tireseasy.com too? Might look there. Also, Discount Tires gives a $50 discount on tire purchases for forum members here.

What tire and size are you looking for btw?

The only problem I have with buying tires online is a lot of shops up here in ct will not mount the tires unless you buy them from them. its a liability issue. If you bring in four tires and the sidewall rips on one of them while being installed you they would have to replace it, where if they sold the tire they could send it back to the manufacturer.

Or at least this is what I've been told.

If the sidewall was fine when you brought in the tires to be mounted and then it became ripped during installation then I would say that it is the fault of the shop doing the install. Don't depend on my words or opinions however as they could also just say we'll were not going to give you another tire and your stuck.

We get our tires (my son, family, friends) from either Tire Warehouse or local auto service shop that also sells any brand of tires through their franchise. Never had any problem finding any tire, I even got them to order Dick Cepek Crushers for me. Why go through the local brickfronts? Because THEY WILL HANDLE THE WARRANTY and give you free incoming freight, handle the mounting and balancing, and if it is their regular policy on in stock tires, we get lifetime rotation and rebalancing...no matter how hard we wheel them. And warranty work...we head right down to them. If you buy from internet/catalog company...you have to SEND THE TIRE BACK to them...at your expense. Check the fine print. IF you have a vendor that has franchises/brickfront stores that handle the labor and warranty-good deal...go with them. Otherwise, find your local tire guy and every one WE talked to up here in NH said if they don't have a particular brand/tire-their 'warehouse' will custom order it. Support your local businesses! And get them as a sponsor for your own jeep club-gets us a discount on top of any negotiated price!

FWIW, I like your instincts on this one ESP.

Like all the warranty questions that pop up around here, there are both legal and practical answers to this issue. They're not always the same.

Legally, watch what you sign when you drop your Jeep off as well as for any posted notices. Absent signing something waiving any responsibility of the shop for the install or seeing something posted that clearly states they have no responsibility, I'd expect a shop would have a hard time saying "We're a professional tire shop, you took your wheels and tires to us for an install and mounting, we tore them up, but that's your problem."

Practically, they're likely to call you and tell you "tough sh*t, come get your Jeep." Then you can decide whether to threaten a lawsuit over a tire that costs a few hundred bucks tops.

That's my two cents.

YUP, it's just like warranty work by a dealer, you are RIGHT, they are WRONG, the law says-blah-blah-blah, but if something happens to YOUR JEEP-

The dealer/autoshop/garage-DOESN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING !!

You may have to FORCE action-ie: exposure-legal-reg letters-PITA confrontation (I've done that)

90% of the time everything is AOK, but now and then you have to stand up and fight (legally) !

The "LT" stands for Light Truck and it will have a heavier load rating.

Also, if you have an eBay account check on there too because discount tires sells their tires on there with no tax for most states and free shipping. The tires are also timed to go into sale mode every so often and then you can get them for an even better price.

Keep us posted on what you get!

I shop DT-Direct, Tire Rack, Treadepot, etc ---- take the price to my local Discount Tire and they match it, get me the tires, install, and help me maintain them. They're my friends and neighbors and I support them.
I always bring them a 12-er when they do the free rotation and balance too...

Well I placed my order with Patrick from discount tire yesterday afternoon. 5 LT295/75/16 BFG TKO. He said they should be here next week. Got a $50 discount for being on the forum, free shipping to my door, and a discout on the warranty. If everything goes as smoothly as he said it would they will have a costumer for life.
