Distinguishing Pentastar tick from exhaust leak

Posted this in the "tick" thread, but felt like I should be more direct with my question...

I went wheeling this weekend at a local off road park, and since then, my Jeep has developed a loud tick from the driver's side of the hood. While we were out, we were driving in a creek bed where a ~5" diameter stick got caught up on driver's side of manual transmission skid plate. It was in there GOOD, and took removal of the skid plate to get it out. I'm not sure if this is related to my ticking sound or not, but I fear that it could be...

Onto the question: My ticking sound is coming from drivers side of engine bay, certainly louder there than anywhere else. It is loud at first startup, especially when cold, then gets a little quieter at idle (but still present). When it is loudest is under acceleration, especially at lower RPM (<2000). From those that have had the dreaded "tick," was this your experience? Is it loud like that under acceleration? OR did I cause an exhaust leak somehow?

Bump. Anyone with either of these 2 issues?

FYI, all the bolts that hold the exhaust pipe (down pipe) near to the exhaust manifold were FINGER TIGHT when I checked them.

I found this when I was doing my lift and adding an AFE down pipe.

Your may have that problem which could cause an exhaust leak.

Have seen/read other posts here and other forums where other 2012 owners have had the same loose bolts on their exhaust as well.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. I'm leaning toward that being the issue here. Never heard anyone say anything about ticks under acceleration with head issues...

Update: gasket at exhaust pipe to manifold was bad. Replaced under warranty.
