I haven't had my wrangler long, but I do know(with 35s) that I want a stubby bumper. Coincidentally I really like the look of the stock, stubby. Ive been looking off and on for awhile trying to find it. Well, today I realize all the ones I am seeing are diy! Is this the only way to achieve this look? If so, Im sure I'll go for it, but was curious if I could just buy the bumper like that, without having to cut into mine? Thanks.

I think my plan is to scour craigslist for a cheap take off bumper... and hack that one up!

Like the looks of that! Which bull bar mount is that?

Also, so all of you are getting aftermarket end caps to put on here? I always thought people just cut the ends off then shortened them and re-attached the stock ends.

I got a free spare front bumper off of craigslist so if I didn't like it, I could go back. Then I got pulled into a rut and launched into a tree. That bent my bumper in so it was stubby time for the take off. Couple of chops with a sawzaw, bolted up the ends, hit it with some plastidip and good to go.

Takeoffs are so readily available that it's not that big of a chance with the DIY. Get some caps and hack away.

You could pick up a set of Rough Country Stubby End Caps which will give you the look you're looking for and be a DIY mod. The caps give a nice finished look and it's a great way to get a custom look on the cheap.

Let me know if you'd like a quote and I'll get you set up!

I've been thinking about doing this for a while now. Improves the look without adding the weight of a steel bumper and for very little cash. So the rough country caps are metal and the vdp caps are plastic, right? Anyone see advantages to either? It definitely seems that the vdp caps are more popular. I'm just wondering why that is.

Good question. Having not seen either one, my assumption is the rc caps give the jeep a more rugged look, whereas the vdp caps are a closer match to the original bumper? I have kind of backed off for now. I still want to do this, but Im worried my ocd is not going to like the finished look. I wish I could see it in person. My biggest concern is not having the caps line up flush, and the seam bothering me :(

Not sure why the plastic is more popular but I think the steel boxier rc look more rugged more jeep like.

All I have seen are like mine and my buddy just ordered and that is what he got. Rough country answers their phone I'd give them a call

why are you cutting your bumpers? Do you do it because of looks or practicality?

Yes they are the same.

They are the same lol just showing different angles.

No only can install one way. They are contoured to the bumper and top, front, bottom and end are closed. Only back is open
