I haven't had my wrangler long, but I do know(with 35s) that I want a stubby bumper. Coincidentally I really like the look of the stock, stubby. Ive been looking off and on for awhile trying to find it. Well, today I realize all the ones I am seeing are diy! Is this the only way to achieve this look? If so, Im sure I'll go for it, but was curious if I could just buy the bumper like that, without having to cut into mine? Thanks.
I just ordered a lift and tires and the front bumper has been bugging me too. Going back and fourth between chopping it up or waiting and selling it off for a couple bucks after I get an aftermarket bumper. But I like this idea a lot more.
Like the looks of that! Which bull bar mount is that?
Also, so all of you are getting aftermarket end caps to put on here? I always thought people just cut the ends off then shortened them and re-attached the stock ends.
I got a free spare front bumper off of craigslist so if I didn't like it, I could go back. Then I got pulled into a rut and launched into a tree. That bent my bumper in so it was stubby time for the take off. Couple of chops with a sawzaw, bolted up the ends, hit it with some plastidip and good to go.
I like it! I have a spare bumper in my back yard. gonna have to try this. Did you cut your bumper off inside or outside of the bolts that hold the plastic cover on? If you cut inside of them, how did you resolve that issue?
You could pick up a set of Rough Country Stubby End Caps which will give you the look you're looking for and be a DIY mod. The caps give a nice finished look and it's a great way to get a custom look on the cheap.
Let me know if you'd like a quote and I'll get you set up!
I've been thinking about doing this for a while now. Improves the look without adding the weight of a steel bumper and for very little cash. So the rough country caps are metal and the vdp caps are plastic, right? Anyone see advantages to either? It definitely seems that the vdp caps are more popular. I'm just wondering why that is.

Good question. Having not seen either one, my assumption is the rc caps give the jeep a more rugged look, whereas the vdp caps are a closer match to the original bumper? I have kind of backed off for now. I still want to do this, but Im worried my ocd is not going to like the finished look. I wish I could see it in person. My biggest concern is not having the caps line up flush, and the seam bothering me
Looks great! Works with the flat fenders too. I really think that the Mopar light bar is the way to go...I'm really liking it. I like that it sits kinda low. Would a winch fit under it though? I don't think I've seen one with a winch...just different light set ups.
Maybe im looking at this wrong, but it appears there are two different rough country options? Im seeing the typical version in this post, but ive also seen one that is squared off on the ends, instead of the tapered look? Can anyone clarify? ill look for a pic
Here are the two im finding for sale. Are these two the same product?...RC says they only offer one style. The pic of the Jeep I just posted was from 2010...maybe the squared off look, was the older version? I kind of prefer that look. hmmm
gotcha...I figured that's what had to be going on-- so ill ask one more time, obviously they can be installed differently, to get the flat side on the end of the bumper(showing)?
SO then Ill ask again, how are some of these getting the look with the RC caps, giving it the squared off look..There are pics all over of them.
