Do you leave your jeep naked 24/7 ?

I'm in an area where I haven't locked my front doors in 19 years. Outside of an occasional black bear trying to get a French fry there isn't a lot of risk leaving the top and doors off.

Do you leave your jeep top and doors off all night ? What about rainy days ?

I cant see putting on those doors and the soft top every night. It would get old fast.

My JK is my DD and my chocolate lab goes to work with me every day, so leaving the Jeep completely naked just isn't practical. I typically settle for leaving the front doors off and the soft-top down. That way I'm only ever 10 minutes away from getting her fully dressed if the situation calls for it and I still get to enjoy the open air ride more often than not.

One of these days I hope to have enough garage space to get a third vehicle so we can just leave the Jeep completely naked most of the year. The garage I have now is pretty tight, so tight in fact that I'm a wee bit concerned about my plans for a lift and 35's on the new '17. I'm going to do the install in my drive way, just in case, lol.

I I saw where you said you take your chocolate lab with you to work every day. Do you take him with the doors off? I have a black lab that would love to drive with me but Im trying to figure out a way to strap him in the passenger seat where he cant fall out. If you drive with your dog like that, what system do you use? Sorry to hijack the thread but I was just wondering.

Depends.

I try to keep an eye on the weather. If we're in for a week of rain I button her up. If its an afternoon shower I put the top up and deal with getting a little wet. I'm pretty sure that trying to avoid all rainy situations would become a PITA real quick and take the fun out of having the doors off in the first place. I'm about to replace the factory carpet to make all of this a little more practical.

I watch the weather here in the KC area very closely. I follow several weather apps. If there's no chance of rain, I'll leave her naked. (Unfortunately, I don't have a soft top yet, so I have to drag my boys out to help with the hard top) I've come to know which weather apps I can trust more than others. Just know, there's still always a chance of something happening..

I am fortunate that I can keep Olive in the garage in crappy weather. She has been naked since middle of April. I have not been caught in the rain yet with her. She has been in the family since 12/31/16. My '47 Willys never had a top or doors, and I was caught in the rain many times (miss that jeep). My CJ7s ('83 & '86) had bikini tops on them. Doors would come off and on as needed. With Bikini and doors I would stay relatively dry if I kept moving unless it was a hard downpour. Jeep thing? :)

Could you please share which weather apps you find more dependable than others?[/QUOTE]

My favorite, and what I've found to be the most reliable is KY3 out of Springfield, Missouri. They have an app, and it has live radar and 10 day forecast. If you watch just the hourly, that's seems to be very reliable.

Thanks. I'll have to see how reliable our local station's app is.

Right now, I'm using Rain Alarm.

If its a weekend, I'll keep mine naked if the weather permits. I usually can't drive to work with the doors off, but i'll leave the top down occasionally during the week. I don't work in the safest area, but we have security cameras and a lot of traffic so it has stayed fairly safe.

My main issue now is cargo. With the top down and doors off, I have to practically empty the Jeep. I can't see myself leaving it in a retail parking lot with all of that stuff in there.

I work in down town KC, at first I was really paranoid leaving my Veronica stripped down, I would park inside the property which is protected by a guard and 10 ft fence. Then I got tired of the extra distance I had to walk after I clock out, so I started parking back in my normal parking space, haven't had any issues as of yet, they do have security cameras up on this parking spot as well. I also don't have anything out, I only carry what'll fit in the locked console or glove box.

On Mother's Day, the soft top gets pulled to install the safari top. I know it's not a huge change, but mid May can still bring snow in Denver.

First week of June, the doors come off and the carpet comes out. If it does rain, I pull the drain plugs and let her dry out. The bartack seat covers keep the seats dry if I get caught in the rain.

I'll run the Jeep like that until mid to late September.

Living in Denver and having a naked Jeep does make me nervous since I use a lot of molle packs for storage. But nothing has gone missing and I don't keep anything valuable in the Jeep. I also don't have a garage, so it's always outside. The only issue is when I reinstall the doors after a season of wheeling, I can have some mismatch body panels.

My JK is kept in a garage and it isn't my daily driver.

When I strip it, it treat it like a motorcycle. If the forecast for the day is nice, I take the Jeep, if it's wet and windy I go in the car. Since it's in a garage, I don't have to worry about being topless when it rains.

I leave mine naked. Top comes off in June. Will leave doors on. Purchase a Bikini Top, or Pic up a tarp & bungee cords if rains. Make sure to support tarp when rains. I go from windshield to roll bar. Use PVC pipe, or?? I learned the hard way after a heavy rain. Lake was in center of tarp. LOL!!

Soft top windows (sides and back) out most of the time. Takes about three minutes to raise/lower the top.

I don't take the doors off nearly as often because I do so much highway driving (DD, 25-40min commute).

Parked in a garage at night. Sometimes I'll go days with the top fully down, other times I raise and lower it in one day.

Probably will pull the trigger on half doors with uppers this year and then will run doorless a lot more since I can just throw them in the back.

I'm in northern Ohio. Doors and windows have been off for a month now, throw up the top when it rains. Doors will go back on for winter.
That **** would have been eaten if it got in my Jeep because I had a much bigger animal (my pit) decide to wait in my Jeep to go for a ride

Going topless is somewhat incompatible with my reasons for owning a Wrangler. Topless means bringing my tools with me when I leave my Jeep, I have to take my recovery gear and CB out, and sweating my ass off in traffic every day pretty much sucks. One of the big reasons I bought it was to serve as my only four wheeled vehicle, replacing my car as a DD and my truck as a "utility" vehicle. Leaving it topless takes away too much utility from it. I'll take the doors off and the windows out of the soft top a few days a week, but leave to top up as a sun shade during the day. Back when I had my YJ I didn't need to bring my tools with me and just kept a half Safari top stashed under one seat, a sweatshirt in a garbage bag under the other, and a towel in the center console from March to October.

Spring, summer and fall in Indiana.

I have several Jeeps, however, my fun Jeep sets out naked every season except winter. It has vinyl seats, no floor mats, no top, no doors and the plugs have been removed from the floor. No problems at all; regardless the amount of rainfall it never stands but runs out through the holes in the floor. With the seats wiped down or five minutes of sun and its ready to go!

There is a guy I always see around Indy that runs with his top off and his windshield down. He even does this in the winter. He has goggles and dresses appropriately for the type of weather.

Will likely be naked from April to November. I do have a cover that I put on when I'm not driving that day and on the one day of rain we get per month. The cover is mostly to cut down on the time that it gets sun-blasted here in Junction. Rain is not a big concern.

I did add a Tuffy security deck and glove box so I can leave it opened up at work and my favorite fishing spots (as popular with thieves as fishermen).

Our JK is a 4th vehicle for us, just used for casual cruising and I have enough garage space to keep it inside when not driving. So, yes, the it stays naked from about May through September or so. If it was a DD or I didn't have garage space, no way would I leave it naked all the time.

too many coyotes (the real dog kind) that like to mark their territory for me to do so.
And, unbelievably, there are still stray cats that do the same... you would think the wild dogs would eat them all, but, cats are sneaky SOB's.
Anyways, having had to replace the bench in my '69 F250, and both buckets in my XJ, due to foul pee-pee smell, no way in heck I'm so much as leaving the windows down in my JK.

In NC I learned that even with the doors off you can put the top up and block 95% of the rain. I've gone down the road at 60 mph in a downpour with the doors (4) off and top up and not gotten wet at all. As long as the wind isn't blowing hard you're fine. I don't make it a habit but then again I don't worry about rain with the doors off like I used to...........

Hard top comes off usually in late March or April. And back on in late October for hunting season. I keep it buck naked whenever possible. I only throw the doors on when I am making a longer trip with the threat of rain. The soft top is just ridiculously easy to put up. I do have a Bestop cab cover for the unforeseen. :( I work for a heavy construction company with a parade of tandems and semis going by my office every morning and afternoon with massive amounts of dust. I have to have a strong Northwest wind for a safe parking spot. Top also goes up on trips to the hunting property with a lot of white rock roads. I drive my Commander when the Wrangler hangs out in the garage.

I live in TN and I have 2 smaller children in my backseat. So with the blazing sun it isn't practical for mine to be topless except on occasion. The alien sun shield helps but it's still hot af. The most naked mine gets is the t tops and front doors. I'm also aware of where I park her when she is naked. Parking on my school campus and wal mart make me nervous as a whore in church. ?

I did with the YJ, but there wasn't anything electronic that could be damaged by the occassional hard rain here. Everything was vac / hard line controlled, and it had already been rusted out, repaired, underdash frame replaced, so on... I loved it. People would ask
"Well, what do you do when it rains?" - I get wet.
"No, what about your Jeep?" - It gets wet.
"No, I mean what do you do to the Jeep when it rains?" - I keep driving.
"But what do you do about the rain?" - I get wet.

The real fun was when it snowed about a foot, Loosey (the YJ) was just as happy toddling around in 4wd no top no doors as any other day. Heavy application of Goretex clothing was necessary in wet under 30F conditions though...
