Does a CAI void the Warranty?

New to the forums and I did a search but couldn't find anything. I had a friend advise me that my new K&N possibly could void my warranty if the dealership notices it? Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

CAIs are of dubious repute around here. I like mine, but many claim they are useless. They certainly will not blow you away or add any of the big horsepower numbers "suggested" by the manufacturers. In your driving RPM range, I'd say you should expect 2 to 4 horsepower, tops. It'll also sound cool. Search the JK section for post titles containing the word "intake" and you'll get more yack about it than you could possibly need.

Assuming you're still interested, the way your factory warranty works is that it (a) won't apply to any modifications you make and (b) won't apply to anything damaged by your modifications. Therefore, your factory warranty won't cover the CAI itself nor any damage caused by the CAI.

There are some folks who claim that CAIs do let in more particulate and, in the right circumstances, water into the engine. If this particulate/water is ultimately the cause of an engine failure, then your warranty won't apply to the cover the cost of the repair.

That said, I haven't seen anybody on this forum suggest that a CAI actually injured their engine or that a dealer denied a warranty claim because of a CAI. But could it happen? I suppose.

Well they would def notice it. But to void the warranty they must first prove that that modification caused the issue. But some dealers will try to do that while others are very mod friendly. Just depends on the dealership.

My CAI will be a snorkel, the box and filter will remain the same so not really worried.

I do believe the CAIs that use a dry filter are ok, but the ones that use an oil filter do void the engine warranty.

MTH, thanks for the welcome and advice. Grog and Adian, thanks as well. My bud did say that the oiled filter ones were the ones that could possibly void the warranty. I still have the stock box, and it's pretty easy to change out if there's an issue.

I had done some research on here and other forums before buying and installing my CAI. I don't plan on doing off-roading or puddle-jumping, and since I've had it installed I've increased my gas mileage right about 1-2 mpg, both city and highway driving. TBH the main reason I decided on a Wrangler was as a get-outta-dodge mobile due to the possibility of hurricane weather we have here in FL.

Until then getting the most out of a tankful is huge. I'm pretty happy with my K&N.

Thanks guys.
