I wish we could get some straight info on this!!
Most of the time parts cross into the next model year if the vehicle stays the same, as for the heads I'm sure they came up with the fix right when production of the 2013's came up which is why there would be a small crossover of parts. At the same time not all of the 2012's will be affected by this problem with the heads, we just hear about the ones that do.

most recalls are for safety, I guess one will have to explode going down the highway killing a few people first. Kind of sucks they do recalls because they need to add a clip to the carpet to keep the floor matt in place or for light bulb that might start a fire but...................

jeep should offer to replace all the aa heads with upgraded ones...even if they are out of the warranty period knowing there was a possiblity of manufacture defect. they will most likely say screw the customer though and expect them to buy from them again.....im just saying they ought to do a preventative service to them....i know i would not wanna buy another if they will not ensure they gave me top quality parts... after all its our hard earned money we spend i mean its basically the guts of the whole vechicle we're talking about here lol

Is there any article out there that describes the root cause of the problem. I've searched and searched and just get this idiotic statement from Chrysler claiming bad gas and the phase of the moon!!

I think blastek said there is no info yet on what changed from the AB to AC head, but also that there haven't been any cases of bad AB heads yet either.

That is July 25th, 2012 in case anyone wants to know the specific date.

It looks like the first batch of 2013's have AB heads. My July build 2013 has a head number of 1962A. I was more curious than concerned and figured I would post my info for others to compare. 2500 miles so far and mine has been nothing short of awesome.

2013 JKU - 09/28/12 born on date - 2642B on left head

@truthiness - for the left side head, stand on the left of the Jeep (driver side) and looking at a long angle from the edge of the fender - look between the metal brake lines and the rear reservoir under the white wire clip. You should be able to see the bottom two lines easily, the top line hides more behind the wire clip.

I haven't hunted down the right side yet.

If I looked at this correct, my engine was built on Sept 21st on the second shift? I hope they did good work, that would be a Friday....

Hey Blastek
What is the Julian date that the AB heads started?
I have a July 2012 build date with two 1882B heads

My 2012 Rubi was built on June 30, 2012. The head date is 1692A. Do you guys think I have the defective head or a AB head?
