The first line is the build date in julian. 2062 and higher (the trailing 2 is the year) is an AC head.

There's been a rumor of a AD head too, but I haven't looked into it. I also think people may be seeing the sticker on the right head and thinking it means it's a AD head.

From Blastek, page 1 "You've got an AC head. Sorry it was 206 or higher. Here's the original note:

Case Number: S1209000022
Release Date: 10/16/2012
Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Identifying Service Replacement Cylinder Heads
Diagnosis:
3.6L cylinders have been improved for durability by upgrading the valve seat and valve guide material. In order to verify that the latest upgrade is incorporated in to the cylinder head received from service parts verify the part number and Julian build date of the cylinder head
Part Number- RL141353AC or higher - left side head
Part Number -RL141352AD or higher– right side head
And a Julian build date of 2062 (206th of 2012) or higher .The build date is stamped on the outboard side of head at the center just below the rocker cover sealing rail."

If it holds there is only AC heads, yours was built on the 57th day of 2013.

It's a bit interesting that this date is also the usual date for change of year after they close the factory for retooling. Makes sense too, in that if there was a bad tool or blade that wasn't set just perfect, they would have caught it during this downtime and fixed or replaced it, therefore fixing the issue. Just a thought.

The question I would like to know is; When did Chrysler change the A head to the B heads? My 2012 was made on 12/16/11. Does it mean I have the defective head?

You are at risk - your build date is early to begin with and I don't think anyone has confirmed when the AB heads began. Use the photos is the prior pages to ID your head's build date.

How many miles does it have now? There is a wide range of when the head problems are showing up, and a variety of symptoms as well. If you are in warranty they will replace it under warranty - once diagnosed, which can be a battle in itself.

Here's a few to start -

I'm getting a bit worried myself. I haven't looked at the head itself but my Jeep has a build date of Feb. 14th, 2012 so I'm definitely at risk. I'm at almost 9000 miles so far. Sucks because I want to put a supercharger on it next year but I'm sure they'll use that to get out of covering my head under warranty if it blows - even if it is a known problem.

Thanks for the info! I emailed Chrysler customer service who responded with this cleverly worded statement that there is no evidence of a defective head or head components on the 2012 Wranglers. Hey s***t can happen, but I was hoping Chrysler would own up to the problem and fix it. My 2012 has 15K miles and without problems, but would like to know when at 50K miles what will happen.

You have the original AA design head. It was assembled on the 345th day of 2011.

I finally just checked my 2013 JKR (built August 2013) - 2152B

That means August 2, 2012...beating 2062 (July 24, 2012) by just a little more than a week. I hope those dates are correct.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks, but I am not sure if anyone knows when the first design change was. Stopped in the Jeep dealer this AM and spoke to the owner, whom I know. He said they haven't had any warrantied 2012's with the head problem. Also said that if it happens, I will be covered through 100,000 miles. So why worry!

A lot of dealer will tell you they don't have any problems. My dealer started telling me this too, and then he just stopped mid-sentence because he realized I already knew - they had one 3 stalls away with the head being replaced and I just walked through the shop. He meant well, in that they don't want customers to worry, but it comes down from the big boss that you don't talk about it too.

I seem to recall from one of the other threads that the switch to the AB head occurred around mid June of 2012 and had a very short run (about 6 weeks). Someone on here reported that there were issues with cam bearing journals on the AB head that caused it to have a short run before the AC head started on day 206 of 2012.

Well I wouldn't say the 13's are completely out of the woods, someone pm'd me saying they're buddy just bought a brand new 10A and it needs a new head with just 150 miles on it. I'm not sure if that's just a coincidence or not but shit I hope the 13's don't start popping up with these issues as well.

2013 model, built July 27 2012.
Passenger head 2012B
Drivers side 2022A
Looks like I've got problem prone heads. Missed the redesign by about 5 days. What's with the A and B? Does that just designate left and right side?

Thanks the only thing I found on my door are laser inprinetd numbers reading 082 1 448. There are no letters MDH or no white label. Not sure what to make of these numbers maybe build date is august 2nd at 448? what does the 1 mean? My engine build said 0762B which I believe is in march so can that build date be right?

Not sure on the A and B, I haven't read up on it in awhile.

The close date though would say you are more likely to have an AB head, which is said to be less likely to have issues.
