I put on my Red Powder Coated Rim Protectors on my Rugged Ridge XHD Wheels as i'm gonna be going on an off-road trip in a few days. I'm trying to decide though whether or not I like the look of the Rim Protectors for everyday driving. There are other members here who have powder coated the same rim protectors on the same wheels and whose rig looks sweet with them on. The reason I wanted Red Rim Protectors is because I have an X and I wanted the red accents to pop. The thing is that these Rugged Ridge Wheels come with a black or chrome cap standard. I bought my wheels from fortec and they have a customized, low profile cap which they will paint in any color. I chose Red to match the red accents of my X. With that being said, i'm thinking that the red paint on the black center caps gives just the pop I was looking for and that the Rim Protectors may be overkill. Any thoughts on which is nicer visually?
I feel like the red there is just a bit too bright.. if it was darker to match the Rubicon lettering I think it would look much better. Otherwise I would go with the black.
You're right the wheels definitely command attention with those rim protectors. @dajig the lighting in the pics makes the rim protectors look lighter than they are. They aren't as dark as the Rubicon lettering or red X Logo in the center cap but they're a little darker then the pics have them appear to be.
With the buddies and co-workers I've showed it's literally 50-50. Half the people say it looks nicer with the rim protectors others say without and some think the red is too bright as others have mentioned here. The red the Rim Protectors are colored in match closer to the front tow hooks vs the red Rubicon decal or red trail badge which are darker in color. Everyone seems to like the Rim Protectors but the ones who prefer the look without said so not because of them not looking good but because too much attention and focus goes to the wheels vs the rest of the Jeep. Anyone else like the rim protectors better? I'm thinking I may keep them on all the time.
I like a little more subdued look and prefer the black. I think they would look really cool if the rim protectors were painted grey like your Jeep! Either way, nice looking ride.
That is nuts you said that because a girl I work with said the EXACT same thing literally twenty minutes ago! She said they would look nice painted the same Granite color as the Jeep. Another Co worker who is into wheeling and Jeeps said it's an accent piece so the Granite color would be too much. That's funny though that two people said that and I'm thinking it would look nice.
Here's a pic from Rey's Rig (norcalrey) a member here. He has a very nice Anvil X. The red on his protectors appears to be darker. Any thoughts/opinions?
I'm interested to hear what the general consensus is on the color/shade of red. Does anyone think they look good in the mopar red or are they too bright and look better on Rey's X in the darker red?
It's funny it's nearly 50-50 here too. Lol. Anyone have thoughts in the difference in shade between the darker red on Rey's Rig vs the lighter red on mine? .
just black or darker red if you really want to leave the red. Have someone photo shop the red darker and change it to a grey ring. then see what you like best.
I'd keep the Red. Adds a nice touch. Go online and find some brighter red Rubicon decals and it would balance nicely
