does this sound like a good price

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some advice..this will be my first car purchase as I have always leased.

I live in CT but I have found the jeep that I want in Florida (I have family not too far away).

Its a Jeep Wrangler Sport S package..for options it has the connectivity group, trailer tow, power conv, 5spd transmissionm, deep tint, 7 speaker with subwoofer and sirius.

I was surprised to find one so close to what I want..the only thing missing is the dual top group but that can always be added.

MSRP is 28,445 but there is an ´nternet discount of 1178 which brings it to 27,267. As for pricing in florida vs ct..it seems to be cheaper but like I said I have no experience haggling, etc.

sorry for being so long winded but any help would be appreciated

$27,267 is very high for a Sport S package. I would look else where. You can also join tread lightly and get 1% under invoice guaranteed.

Tread Lightly - Tread Lightly! Discount on Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Chrysler Vehicles

Is this an 11 or 12? I'm guessing it's an 11 since there is a discount. The first thing you need to do is see if you qualify for the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards program through your employer or other association. If not, join Tread Lightly for 3 years and you are eligible. AR gets you a price of 1% below invoice price. Any incentive or rebate available is then deducted from the AR price. You should be able to get somewhere around $1500 below invoice price this way.

After reading that again I see that it's a 12. That price would be OK if you were negotiating it at the lot, especially for a 2012. If they are truly offering a discount of $1178 you should do AR, then see if they will deduct the $1178. That would put you at $25792. I doubt they will do that, but all they can say is no. Even then AR alone gets you $26970.

Not really, That is about right. TL could get you a little less but the sport S package with other upgrades can get the model up there pretty Quick. My MSRP for my 2010 Sport S was right at 28K

I'm amazed then. Granted, I did not get the "S" package but I paid $21,500 OTD for my 2010 JK with hardtop, manual tranny, AC and no power anything. It just seems way high to be about a $8K difference. I rather be looking at Rubi in the near 30K price range.

Wait..did the OP even say whether he was looking at a 2D vs 4D?

Just a couple of weeks ago you only paid $19,000 OTD for it. Which number is correct?

Keep in mind when you join TL that you have to have been a member with a TL number for 30 days before Chrysler will issue you a control number. I found this out the hard way. No control number, not TL discount. So that makes taking one off the lot a potential issue.

Haven't bought yet but been to all three and talked with salesman at each. Oh and Pamby in Ridgefield. But I didn't get the feeling they would negotiate as well as the others. We have a clubman going off lease in December and that is why I am waiting to buy. Probable will order in November if I don't find one on the lot (2012 sports s 2 dr, auto, power conv, soft top, connectivity, 3.73, tow package, infinity, sirius). I can't wait hoping to get that for 27,500 otd or lower.

I am in the same lease boat...mine is up the week of thanksgiving. I have friends who have been in ridgefield and georgetown (westport ave in Norwalk) and I have been told to not even bother going in there...they are pretty cut throat..no deals to be had.

Your jeep sounds like the one I want and lower would be wonderful

That's not how mine worked. They mailed me the control number the Friday after I joined. Had it in my hand on Tuesday of the following week.

That was the TL membership number. You need to be a member for 30 days before Chrysler will issue you a control number. The control number is needed for the affiliate program pricing.

Get it with a hard top and buy a soft top from someone who doesn't use it. I bought a brand new one from a 2011 for $650 shipped to me. That's cheaper than getting from the factory.

You should be able to get 1% below invoice without joining anything. I would take 1% off invoice, then lower down to the next nice round number, then start emailing and calling around. You should be able to get that and even better just by contacting multiple dealership.

What's the invoice price on that one come to?

$3400??

All adding the "dual top group" means is that you buy another top.

The Wrangler comes stock with the soft top. If you get one with just the hard top, Jeep keeps the soft top, discounts the price by the amount of the soft top, and then increases the price by the amount of the hard top. Because the hard top is pricier, the net effect is to raise the price.

If you get one with the "dual top group," you're just buying both tops. However, because the soft top comes stock and is included in the sticker price, your price should only go up by the amount of the hard top.

I don't recall what the MSRP is on a hardtop, but $3400 is ain't it. That's NUTS.

my thoughts exactly..totally nuts..they came to the price of $3400 to include install. I checked the "build your own"section on the jeep website and I believe the hard top msrp is $735. And when I was adding the dual top group I was pretty much thinking what you just said..they are now charging me for both tops. Maybe I should just order the jeep I want with the hard top and buy a soft top after...

Even buying the soft top from the parts department at the dealership is around $1525. They are wanting $1800+ to install it.
