2008, bought used with 30k miles, freedom top. My roof does not leak. Even when I parked her in the middle of my front lawn this weekend during the hurricane. Dry as a bone.

And even if she did take on a little water, I would still love her just the same. It's a Jeep, dammit!

YES. I'm searching these posts to get answers because I'm PISSSED. Just got this jeep and love it except the water came gushing in this week due to rain. It pours in the passenger side front corner. Passenger side is soaked. I'm bringing it to dealership Saturday.

NO Jeeps don't leak like that, no way, something is wrong with the way you put the top up, that can't be right.

A few drops maybe, there is no "gushing " water associated with Wranglers in general.

My old mustang rag top used to leak on both sides, started with the passenger then after a few years drivers did too... Guess that's why they say you are supposed to replace those tops every 5 years or something..

I teach computer repair. The first book that I used in my course by Marc Minasi states the first rule of troubleshooting is and I quote "Check the nut behind the keyboard, even if that nut happens to be you."

If you took delivery of the jeep and it wasn't leaking and now all of a sudden it is....AND you have had the top off, you will need to start by checking very carefully that there are no seals that are somehow placed in the wrong way causing the normal seal not to be able to form. A lot of leaks are user created if it hadn't leaked in the first storm after delivery.

I took my brand new jku back to the dealer four times within the first 45 days of owning it. The fourth time i left it with them, it was raining that day. In fact, it had rained in my town for 2 days and 2 nights prior. I went out to the lot, and there were 20+ jks and jkus there that day. I opened the drivers side door and looked inside four jks. 3 of them had over an inch of standing water on the drivers side floorboard. I am not kidding.
At that point I realized that this is what I paid for, and I am going to have to fix it myself if I can. Since the dealership (you know, the people that apparently are experts on jeeps) couldnt fix the leak after three attempts, I realized it must be the vehicle afterall. ...and all that time I was thinking the service guys were just not doing enough!!
My jeep now only leaks when it is reeeally windy and raining, or if I speed through a foot or more of standing water. Taking a page out of Jimbox's playbook, some things I have to fix myself.

I came to the conclusion the best fix for me is to pull the carpets and apply truck bed liner on the floors...dog hair is getting ridiculous anyways, i'd rather be able to hose out the floors. now if I could just figure out a good way to waterproof the stereo and steering wheel.

No leak

Have a 2012 JKU sahara that I have moved the softop in various positions several times (sunrider, fully open and closed). Left it outside today in an all day monsoon and no leaks (anyone in MD?) aside from a little bit of water from the rooftop when I opened the door. Very happy...
I had a 2006 M3 convertible that leaked more, and that really freaked me out!

Ok thanks. I'm hoping it's my fault that it's leaking on one side. I'll find out tomorrow when I bring it in to Jeep.

My Jeep does not leak. The one time I did have a leak it's because I accidently tore the weather strip on the corner of the door surround. I replaced it and solved the issue. First, you should not be "speeding through a foot or more of standing water." Are you speeding through standing water enought to cause it to leak throught your top? Can you say hydro-lock?

ok, had a 98 TJ with a hard top that didn't leak, soft top didn't either. 2009 JK Sahara that didn't leak. Had the hard top off once the day i brought it home and never had the soft top on. New 2012 Rubicon hard top, no leaks yet even through the hurricane.

My 2011 leaks, tonight will be my second trip to the dealer. Maybe I could end up with a 2012 leaky Jeep.

I traded a dude my 2012's LEAK FREE soft top for a 2011 hard top, that pours the water in!! It is leaking at the top of both front doors, in the center sections of the freedom top panels and at the tail gate I had water dripping down my sub in the back, dripping on stereo, my cb (above the rear-view mirror), both doors and my carpets were soaked and i had to pull them out and remove all the drain plugs.

I adjusted my doors today make the top part fit more snug, hopefully this will help some of the door leaks, going to see if i can't adjust the rear hatch to make it more snug too.

I'll keep you posted on my progress... and yes i know how to install the tops, This is my 4th hard top on my 4th JK, haha.... and none have ever leaked nearly this bad!

I think my issue is that the 2011 does not fit the 2012 so I'm goin to sell the 2011 hardtop and try to find something that fits the 2012. I think I screwed myself.

I'd ask the parts guy an the dealership to check the part numbers on the top and verify they're different. I did this before I bought a soft top and he said the '11s and '12 have the same part number. I've since bought a top from an '11 and it seems to fit fine.

I think they get the hard tops sealed good at the factory and then the first time you remove it, it leaks then on. I say this because when I pulled mine off, it had long strings if black sealant pulling away from the top.

Well that's good to know, i'll have to check on the hardtops, maybe i just need to try and adjust everything.

I have a 2011 JKU, we are rebuilding - 76 land cruiser in the garage so my JKU is outside every day. I therefore put my top on every night when get home and take off in the am except for this week where it has rained continuously for 5 days. Zero leaks! I vote operator error or you have melted or pulled off the seal around the edge. Also make sure the rounds screws are in pretty tight.

Its awesome that your jeep does not leak.
It rains a lot where I live, especially during hurricane season. Sometimes puddles are deeper than they appear.
No, I cannot say that word.

Mine leaked- and it was because when I opened the Sunrider, I pulled it back too much. When I closed it, I left a pocket in the fabric which allowed driving rain to enter.

I'm since learned to take a walk around to the passenger side once in a while and make certain things are nice and tight.

Jeeps don't leak because of design flaws, they leak due to the reality of their flexibility.

I will say the potential for hard use, muddy boots, nasty weather made me want to keep my JK simple. I love it.

I've owned two other Jeeps and an old Ford Bronco. It seems the same holds true for all of these things. If you don't take care of the top, maintain the seals, or seat the top incorrectly, it will leak.

One of the biggest problems I had in the past was pinching the seal and not doing a thorough check of the area before putting the top back on. The slightest pinch meant finding out that I had a leak.

Overall, it's a Jeep thing. If you want a car, buy a car. If you want a Jeep, buy a Jeep. If you want a Jeep that will never ever leak, buy a Jeep, a welder, and some all weather caulk and then go nuts!

I have to disagree with the people that say "it's a jeep thing" that's total BS...

I've had 6 TJ/LJs, and 4 JK's so far, and there is a YJ in my driveway... and guess what? none of the TJs or LJs leaked, not even the YJ (all soft tops). My 07(soft top) JK leaked, my 08(soft top) only had a few drops but only in down pours, my 09 (hardtop) was bone dry. And my 2012 has a hard top from a 2011 (so it's leaks may be my fault for putting the older top on, haha).. So it's not a Jeep thing, it's either user error, or something wrong with seals/top etc..

The Jk's top is bad design, bottom line. And now with the 2011 and 2012s having the power inverter in the center console, there will be some serious problems if some one with a hard top (like me) has it leaking down on the center console! can you say zap zap if you have the inverter on and it gets wet! This not just an annoyance now, now it becomes a safety issue.

There is a reason others have lemon law'd their JKs because of the top, b/c it's something that should not happen.

Now personally, I don't mind some drops here and there, I'm not picky. But some other people are and they should have the right to be that way. We shouldn't be knocking new jeepers for wanting a dry Jeep.

+1 Maybe Chrysler should look for a better supplier of tops or come up with a better design. I see a lot of people talking about leaks, IMO it should be something they address.

Bestop makes the OEM soft top. Keep in mind that are reading about the vocal minority. No joins the forum to proclaim that their top doesn't leak.

That's probably why the inverter has an on /off switch.... Js

Right, but what if you are using it and it rains? Does Jeep think people can only use new options only part of the time? My kid shouldn't have to give up his DS or PSP b/c it's raining on a road trip
