Does your hood "Flap" when it's windy?

I've noticed this alot since I've had the Jeep....When it's windy it seems like it mite fly open. The center latch and the 2 side latches are all secure. Is this normal for a Wrangler?

Pretty normal for any Wrangler... I think it's Daystar who makes some replacement rubber straps for the side that are a lot stronger and stop the flapping.

Mines does not.

Parts manager at dealer said they were some slight changes to the 09's which included a fix for this, the freedom top, and some other small things, might want to see if they have added any TSB's since the 09's have some changes.

i've never had this problem in either my CJ7 or My TJ. neither has my husband, he has a YJ and Had a TJ. Does yours seem to get a lot of lift, or does it rattle?

It's a JK thing, daystar makes replacement hood latches call the hood wranglers. Word of the wise if you don't like it now don't go with and after market bumper. Once you take off the little air dam under the plastic front bumper it makes it worse.

Both of my TJs have done that. If a rig goes by me at highway speed, the hood really lifts up.

So far mine doesn't do that and we had some pretty good winds since thanksgiving. One of the first mods I made was installing the mopar hood lock. It works by clamping the hood from inside. I wonder if that has helped. I did the install just a few days after I took delivery and before the winds. (BTW if you install it yourself you will need a huge hand rivet tool that can hold a quarter inch rivet. Home Depot doesn't carry them. Fastenall does.)

I removed my hood release spring and it stopped 90% of the flutter.

Mine does it too, was flapping so much on a windy day that that I stopped at a rest area to make sure it was properly secured.

noticed on the Garden City Skyway this weekend (which is high) in a high wind that it seemed like it would lift, but didn't. Otherwise, I haven't noticed this on highways..

There is a recall on the 09 jk's hood primary hood latches. i have herd that the hoods are fairly flimsy due to weight reduction, so much that when you drive it through a car wash the dryers make them bow in. swap it for an aev hood.

The previous owner of my LJ put a bug deflector on the hood that acted like a wing trying to lift the dang thing. Since I took that off it only tries to lift on really windy days.

daystar hood wranglers will make sure it never moves again they are serious no movement at all. $25= no more issue, money well spent imo.

Mine flaps. I only notice it at or above approximately 55mph. The first time I noticed it I had a pretty good handle on it because I had actually released and looked under the hood before purchasing it (my first). So I was aware that it was rubber bands on steroids holding the hood down. It didn't surprise me terribly because I just figured those rubber bands were doing a little flexing. Anybody have any bad experiences because of this? If so maybe it is worth fixing. If they do a complimentary retrofit I might have it done. Otherwise unless it is going to cause problems I'm going to leave it alone.

It's more than a flap. It jumps up and down with any larger gust of wind. Really grabs your attention when it happens.

I guess everybody reacts differently to these types of things. Mine really jumps up and down in wind gusts on the highway while the vehicle is moving at 70mph +/-.

I get more jumpy when I get blown across a half a lane of traffic at that speed in a cross wind. That is when I slow down and get into the right lane. The jeep is more suited to crawling through the woods than highway travel. For safety's sake I think it is important to realize the vehicle's limitations.
