Does your JK Burn Oil? Poll

I have several friends with JK's, none of which are using or burning any oil. Mine isn't either. I don't think the 3.8L is as bad as many make it out to be. Who knows if oil consumption articles in certain magazines are fabricated or not.

So, if you would, please let us know what year, model, the mileage on your JK. Also state whether or not you are adding oil between oil changes.

Mine: 2007 X 2 door, 25,225 miles. Burns no oil.

Thanks

2009 JK 2 door, 50k

I only burned a little oil once, bruned up about a quart+/-
but I was on the beach, three trucks where stuck, I was stuck, and one of them had a camper... I managed to get out, and kept pulling the others out, I overheated like 3 times... so, ya'll can decide on that one

thats the only time I ever had oil loss

I have a 2007 Sahara 2-door, six-speed with 31,000 miles. I have the oil and filter changed every six months, usually less than 2,000 miles on the oil, and I have never had to add any oil between changes. Dealer, Bill Luke in Phoenix, uses Mopar 5W-20 oil and a Mopar filter per the book. Works for me, so far.

I've got a 2008 JK with 21K on it and I'm not burning any oil between oil changes. Let's hope that doesn't change as the miles increase.

Seems like I'm the odd-ball. My 07 just hit 50k miles and I usually top off the oil once a week or 2 weeks. I just added a quart this morning. There are 0 leaks or spots on my garage floor so it is definitely burning in the motor.

2008 Rubicon burns about 1 quart between oil changes. Chrysler states that this is not abnormal for this engine and will not do anything regarding it.

I do have the LIFETIME POWERTRAIN warranty

I think it depends where your engine was built. I think some that were built in Mexico had a problem and caused them to burn more oil than the others.

From other threads about this I believe Roadhawg is right. Something to do with how piston rings were installed in the Mexico engine plant causes them to burn oil.
