Door-less with Manual Transmission Safety

I've done quite a bit of research and I haven't been able to find an answer.

If I leave my JK in the driveway, door-less and topless, what's stopping someone (either a child or a prankster) from hopping in, releasing the parking brake, putting it in neutral, and rolling down the street? I live on a hill with kids in the neighborhood, so it's been a big concern to me.

The only thing I thought of would be to run a cable lock through the wheel so it can't roll.

Proximity alarm the easiest!

I'm not 100% positive, but unless you have the key in and the ignition switch turned on, you can't turn the steering wheel, correct? So before you turn it off, turn the wheels way over in either direction....they can't straighten the wheel so if they do release the brake it should only roll in a circle and eventually come to a stop sideways on the slope. It may roll, but not very far.

I parked at a train station one morning, no top and doors. A guy on the platform said "you just gonna leave your jeep like that?"
"well, I don't exactly have the doors in my pockets, so, yeah."
"well, these kids around here, they're always hanging around here, you know, getting in trouble."

"Oh, I have insurance."

It wasn't a burned out hull when I got home from work. Someone stole my maglite later in the summer (either there or at home or wherever else I left the jeep), but I probably shouldn't have left a bright blue one clipped to my seat frame.

The issue with that would be my brake lights would stay on.

Are modern kids or pranksters even aware of how to put a manual in neutral?
That's a good point.

To add, my Jeep doesn't have a steering lock. Oh well, no big deal, I'll just go with a cable lock or steering lock. I just wanted to know if you guys had other solutions. Thanks! :)

Yeah, it's been ahwhile so maybe it pulled up on the brake. Maybe some kinda chok <sp> on the wheel/tire something you could lock in place like the boot they put on your vehicle when you own a fine? Someone might be able to rig up s chock with a giant u-bolt you can slip through the two of them and lock together.

Note this idea is my intellectual property and if it sells well I want 10% <whistle>

That is the real danger. They DON'T KNOW that it is dangerous, or even possible to shift it into neutral without the key.

I'll be honest, this is something I've never considered. I need to come up with a plan. I have small grand kids who could get into mine and get into trouble.

If all you're worried about is someone rolling it away, get a curved semi truck chock block. The toe of the block is thin and long so the tire steps on it, then starts to roll up the block. You would need to set it down, the roll the Jeep onto it to keep someone from moving the block. Two step process, but simpler than some sort of lock. The chock can be hammered out from under the tire, but that is too much like work.

Is your vehicle on a hill already? Maybe place some sort of wheel chock/ramp behind one of the tires and back up onto it to put pressure on the chock/ramp so someone could not simply kick it out of the way and the vehicle woul have to be pushed up the hill to take the pressure off of the chock which would be very difficult to do. Does this make sense? haha

I wouldn't get so worked up over it. Just pay your insurance and make sure you have good liability. If anything happens your insurance company won't want to pay out and will do everything possible to find the person who did it so that they don't pay out.

You can't prevent everything and Sometimes insurance is the best peace of mind. You'd be surprised how cheap a $1-3mil umbrella liability policy is and if you have your home insurance at the same company they can usually make it overlap. I think I only pay $100-200 extra a year to get it on my vehicle
