Door lock malfunction (click...click...click)

Greetings,

Upon departing my Jeep this evening I pushed the remote button to lock the doors and I heard a "click click click click" sound. After a few minutes of investigation, I realized the sound was coming from inside the passenger door. It appears that something is wrong with the door lock mechanism. It takes two clicks of the remote to actually lock the passenger door. Meanwhile the clicking (inside door) sound continues on each remote or inside lock push.

Has anyone else experienced any issues with the door locks? Off to the dealership I go...Argh!

Thanks,

Rich

I haven't had the clicking thing, but twice my wife has opened the passenger door when the Jeep was supposedly "locked". The alarm started going off so I quickly pressed unlock on the remote, so I don't know if just that door was unlocked or all of them.

Same thing happening here

Just bought a 2010 wrangler unlimited 3 weeks ago and last night my door started doing the same thing. Needless to say, I'm extremely irritated. No idea what's causing the door lock to do this. Any ideas? Calling the dealership tomorrow.

Thanks, InfernoGirl, but it doesn't seem to be the key FOB, it makes the same noise when I try to lock it from the inside. It clicks real fast like it's trying to lock and can't seem to find the latch or something.
Needless to say, I'm very aggravated. Brand new jeep and having a petty problem already.

This is doubtful, but if you have had the doors off, make sure the plug is securely seated on the pigtail connecting the electronics to the door.

Also, may want to check the strike spot of the door latch - I am betting it is something very minor and a quick trip by the dealer would have you smiling and happy (and maybe even a free cookie or coffee) within 10 minutes...

Howdy all -- anyone figure out what caused this? On Friday afternoon, the right rear passenger door on our 2010 JKU started doing this. The door locks and unlocks just fine, but it does make the click-click-click sound all of a sudden. Doors have not been off yet.

Thanks!

Most likely it is the door lock actuator (Door Latch). I previously worked at a Chrysler dealership for fifteen years and replaced several door latches in my day! Good Luck!

I have a chrysler PT Cruiser that sounded like it was possessed with the locks twitching with a click, click, click. It turned out to be the remote unlock from the rear. Water was getting into the lock and then into the wiring which trips unlock to the computer. When it would rain...click click click. So, does this problem relate to rain or moisture caused by condensation by any chance? Maybe on a cool evening with high humidity? Just trying to help you to narrow it down.

Unfortunately the gears in the electric locks are made of either Teflon or plastic and when they start rounding off the teeth on the gears you will start getting this noise. It is the gears jumping across each other. This will happen for a while before they finally strip completely and have to have the gear replace. It's too bad they can't get metal gears for these things. They need them

This happened to me the first week of owning my 2011. It was my rear door. The final verdict was "Problem with rear door lock accuator". Cost me two trips to the dealership and about 6 hours of waiting. Not sure hwo they fixed it, but it doesnt do it anymore.

OK so I took my rig into the dealer yesterday and after keeping it for 5 hours, I was told that they had to replace the actuator switches. I was also told that they are only allowed to order one set of these every 14days per GM. I was asked they guy if he was serious and he said yes, they are not allowed to order more thn one every 14 days.

They had to fix my steering wheel as it was not centered and although it is better now, it is stiff a bit off. And, I have to go back in a few weeks to leave my Jeep with them for another 5 hours.

Not happy. I have owned my jeep less than a week and I am already not happy!

Zombie-Sniper, I feel the same way. Wait until your jeep has a puddle on the passenger side floorboard after it rains. Chrylser is piss poor, and the dealership that I have to visit is as well. I chalk it up to typical BS of the common era in America. I got used to never having my order correct at resturants, now I am gettng used to brand new automobiles built by one-eyed idjits.
Has anyone seen the movie "Idiocracy"?

I avoid the lock problem by having manual locks and taking my doors off

"it's got electrolytes...it's what plants need man!"

Totally stupid movie but a good laugh nonetheless

That bites, the puddle in your Jipped, err I mean Jeep. Today, I have had it one week. Something about having a new car and having it at the shop the first week more than in my driveway.. just does not seem right.

Yeah, saw the movie and thought, wow, this is happening right now!!! I am with you on the typical BS. I am so tired of people not doing their jobs and then getting mad when you call them on it. I now only go out to eat to places I know the owners and that is not many.

Let's hope after we all lost so much money with GM on it's bankruptcy BS, they can start to get us some decent Jips, I mean Jeeps. I will never get my stocks I lost back, let's hope I can get my door locks fixed.

Here is an email from Customer Service - I emailed asking what the deal is on this recall because it affects my Jeep and every time I try to view the pdf the Jeep website cant find it:

In regards to your inquiry, we have provided information regarding the
L03 recall below:

The right front door latch, right rear door latch and/or swing gate latch on about 35,000 the above vehicles may develop a ratcheting sound while using the power door locks.

We advise to contact your dealership regarding this recall, as they will be able to repair it at no cost to you.

I already had my rear door fixed over a month ago, but I guess now I should go back and have them look at the other doors....

I called Jeep because I could not understand why I had to wait up to now, 6 months to get my locks fixed. But, she said they cannot make them fast enough to fulfill the need. I told them I had not even had the Jeep a week and I have had steering issues, a skid plate missing that I am told I am not suppose to have and now door locks all within 7 days.
She said she would call and see what she could do, but basically, we are at the mercy of the dealership.

I am thinking I maybe should have kept my Hummer H3... or at least got the 2011 for an extra 3 grand.

I am trying to keep my happy jeep composure as I LOVE JEEPS and always have. Just hard to do when all this is going on. Ontop of it all my 10 month old TomTom 930T GO stopped workinmg and TomTom will not warranty it because I cannot find the reciept even though they can see whan I created my account. What the hell has happened to GOOD Customer Service????

Dear: (Name)
At Chrysler Group LLC, you can be assured that we are changing the way we look at quality. To prove our commitment to quality, the company is investing in and prioritizing improvements for every vehicle that we build. As part of that commitment, we are also targeting existing vehicles on the road today and contacting our customers to provide these quality improvements, at no charge, that will help to improve your ownership satisfaction.
We are recommending the following improvements be performed on some 2011 model year Ram Trucks and 2010 and 2011 model year JeepWrangler vehicles equipped with power door locks. Recommended Service:
The right front door latch, right rear door latch and/or swing gate latch on your vehicle (VIN: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) may develop a ratcheting sound while using the power door locks.
What your dealer will do:
Chrysler will service your vehicle free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will inspect the door and swing gate latches and replace them if necessary. The work will take up to 1.5 hours to complete. We recommend that you make an appointment with your dealer to minimize your inconvenience.
What you should do:
Simply contact your Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge dealer, at your convenience, to schedule a service appointment. Your dealer will collect the necessary information to ensure that the appropriate parts are available so your service can be completed in a timely manner. Although not required, we recommend bringing this letter with you to your dealer, when you bring your vehicle in for this service.

Zombie-Sniper,

I just dropped my 2010 off today at the dealership. I checked the owners section of the Jeep site and found that there was a factory recall for the 2010-2011 door latches. You might check your VIN and see if this applies to your JK.
