Door panels rattle

Just bought 2013 JKU, have owned it for just over a week and accumulated 300mi. Just after I hit 200mi mark, the front door panels started to make a creeking sound and has gotten worse over the past few days. Think it is glass in door. Can't pinpoint.

Has anyone else had this issue?

First I have heard of the door creaking! It is not uncommon for the front driver seat to make a little noise.

Try a small amount of lithium grease on the door latches. There are some older threads on this door rattle issue
Jeep recommends a different grease ($$$). The lithium worked for me and is much cheaper

When I roll down the window the creeking tops. Tested at low speed so not to mask sound with wind. Hear it when it hit minor bumps in road.

It isnt the door hinge.

Electric or rolls own windows? If you roll down a bit can you rattle/shake the window?

The creeking sound is only occurs when I have window 100% up. When I barely roll window down to the point it visually looks like it's all the way up, the creeking stops. Only when I go 100% up that creek returns

since you just bought it, i'd take it to the dealer and make them fix it (on the house).

Crazy, I think I found the cause! It only happens when the window is 100% rolled up, loading the window even slightly and the noise stops. I think the seals around the window is the culprit. If the felt area is loose up against the window, when the door moves by either a bump or when you press your leg up against the door panel, it will allow the window to move around in the window channel... Thus causing the small, subtle but definitely noticeable sound (like a quick creak).

And, noticed, does your jeep have power door locks? if so, I saw the cable for the switch (the one you have to disconnect to remove the panel) was under the door actuator. I have moved it to the top and the noise went away...for now. I'll post follow ups when the weather dries out a bit.

I have an annoying rattle in the drivers door, its driving me bonkers, It rattles when the widow is up, down, partially open, doors locked, unlocked. As soon as I pop the door open, it goes away.
I think I am going to have to remove a door panel and investigate further.....

Same here. 2013 now about 5k. Is now driving me crazy and as soon as you unload the tension from the window, even by just a little, the noise stops. Soon as it's rolled back up 100%, noise will resume.

I'm trying to not have a huge list of rattles/noises for dealer to work on at once. My windows are very noisy with creaking as described and also mine make a lot of noise rolling up and down (creaking noises).

As it stands now, I need the following issues fixed:

- door hinge rattle noise
- window creaking noise
- broken window switch replaced
- new tranny to address 2nd gear shudder
- fix evic buttons on steering wheel, they work half the time
- find and fix metal rattling/vibrating sound coming from cowl

I think that's it for now.

Intermittent rattle creak

My 2013 started an annoying rattle/creak at about 2500 miles. It appeared to be coming from the passenger seat. It was intermittent, with no apparent reason on smooth roads, rough ones, off road, in the drive tru at McDonalds's..As an Engineer it drove me nuts...AARGh!

I end up removing the hardtop to rip the passenger seat out when I discovered the "chunk of foam" that merges the sound bar roll bar to the side passenger side roll bar. Its hidden under the roll bar cover andit's merely there to fill out the roll bar cover and give it some shape.

All that holds in this chunk of foam is 2 plastic push rivets (amen!), and the foam is relatively loose. As the foam rubs against the metal roll bar, (coupled with temperature/humidity and the acoustics of the hardtop.)all kinds of creaking/rattling sounds are produced.

As a sanity check I complete removed the foam blocs for 2 weeks (passenger ad driver sides) and all the rattle creaking went away.

To fix it, I cut off the plastic rivets flush with the foam and applied industrial strength velcro to the roll bar and the foam and reinstalled.

It's been over a month now and I have not any further problems

Bump this up. I have the same issue a few people in here are explaining. I have a rattle in my drivers door only when the window is rolled all the way up. If I just tap the window down the noise is gone. Its driving me nuts

Same here. I had it on my 2012 and went through multiple regulators with no fix. Now my 2014 has it and they replaced the window guide and it still makes the noise.

Any update on this problem? I've taken my jeep in three times to try and get this issue fixed and they have not been able to come up with a solution. The creak is driving me nuts.

** Possible Solution **
I've had this same issue for about a year now. I stumbled upon this thread a few months back and decided that if I ever figured it out, I owed it to all of these posters to follow-up here.

So, after trying several different fixes, I think I found one that finally fixed it. And it's super simple!!

Take an old t-shirt (preferably black) and cut a strip of cloth from it that is about 3 inches wide and 10 inches long.

At the top middle of your window frame (where the window goes into the frame when rolled up), use your fingers to tuck the cloth into the gap lengthwise so that it can no longer be seen. Don't try to be neat with it... let it fold and crumple so that it is kind of wedged in there and is less likely to fall out.

Then roll the window up. This will push it the rest of the way in and create a padding between the top of the window glass and where it touches the frame.

I had no faith in this fixing the issue when I first tried it, but it definitely worked.

The window motor closes the window so hard that I think the padding in the window frame eventually got worn out from normal opening and closing of the window. So the very top part of the glass was making direct contact with something hard (or at least not padded) and causing it to creak when they rubbed against each other.

I ended up doing this on all 4 doors of my JKU. It eliminated some noises from the rear doors that I didn't even realize were related.

yes mine does this too....but mine is only when the window is down...and when I close the door. It is the drivers side on mine. Cant hear anything when the window is up but it seems like it is inside the door or something...like a loose window maybe...drives me nuts!

It has nothing to do with my window............the search continues.
