Welcome to the forum. I put electrical tape on the left front door striker and it stopped all the noise. I'll be looking for a more permanent solution from the dealer too, but for now, it's gone and I know where it's coming from.

I followed earlier suggestions and I put silicon grease on the latch assy. so far I haven't heard anything. I don't believe this is a permanent fix, I think I see a door latch replacement in the future? I contacted a local dealer and asked if they are aware of this problem, of course they never heard of it! I also contacted Chrysler/Jeep and told them of the issue and that this seems to be a problem with the JK four doors from the get go.

I put grease on my latches yesterday after reading this thread and no rattle this morning on the way to work. I just used some old stuff I had from racing RC cars will be looking for something that has some sticky to it if needed again.

Nope, the grease didn't work. I still have the noise. I went over the hard top to make sure it was tight and all. I guess she's going in to get looked at. If that don't work, I'll turn up the radio!

like Klenger said, you need to put ELECTRICAL TAPE around the door latch. do one at a time to find out which one is doing it. greasing the latch doesn't do anything but make a mess.

Two Recommendations for y'all:

1. Make sure to keep getting it documented by the Dealer. This will help you in the future, IF..... they ever figure out what it is. If your Jeep goes out of Warranty, and you have this problem well documented, they should replace it for Free, based on past Dealer visits.

2. Place a piece of Adhesive-Backed Automotive Weatherstripping (Rubber... not Foam...), on the inside of your Door Jamb, just above or below the Door Striker (depending what fits best for you...). Make sure that, when your Door closes, the Door's Weatherstrip meets the piece of Weatherstrip you added. This should create some resistance, keeping pressure on the Door, and not allowing the Door to rattle. Ensure you remove this before any Dealer Visit, so they don't have a reason to deny your Warranty Claim. It shouldn't... but you never know!

I did this on my Bestop Highrock Element Doors last year, and it worked GREAT! I didn't need any Electrical Tape or Lube.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

Well, I put only a couple of wraps of tape on the striker; it took away the noise. I made the appointment with the dealer anyway. I took the tape off the day before so it would start making the noise again. It didn't make the noise! I took it and drove it around on bumpy roads and over speed bumps; nothing! Not a thump anywhere! The door was also harder to close than others I saw, so they adjusted the striker. It closes better and I could've swore I heard a slight thump when I hit a bump one time. I wanted the dealer to do something because they'll charge me 50.00 for labor if they don't find anything. So make darn sure you can duplicate that noise when you go to the dealer. Otherwise they just say it's a loose nut behind the wheel!

I had the same problem as all of you. I just usd a Torx 45 to loosen the two bolts that hold the striker lifter the striker slightly and re-tightened. seemed to do the trick.

I've had my 08 for two plus years now and the rattle comes and goes. For the most part, I ignore it. I had been tempted to put some electrical tape on it but decided against it. I've been considering putting a coating of 5 minute epoxy on it and coating the whole ring. Five minute epoxy stays soft like electrical tape but is more durable. By coating the whole surface, the epoxy will be able to hold in place better. If someone tries this I hope you report back to the thread and let us know how it worked. It might encourage me to actually act on my suggestion. Sooner or later I will give it a go.

Wink Pillar thumping

Just like Waryhymn said, loosen the two screws on the striker and slide it up a bit. It should be done at the dealer so it is documented, but if you don't have time this is a lot faster. The noise is very annoying and I'm not usually a fuss fart about noises.

There was actually a recall for this. The fix is applying a bit of grease to door side of the latch. Work it in good and then open and close the door a couple of times to get it in the latch. This should stop it from rattling. You may have to do this a couple of times to get in working just right, but it should go away.

Wow, mine was never that bad. I did have a bolt loose on the upper left side of the front window. There are two bolts that attach the windshield to the roll bars. Those being loose will also cause a rattle noise.

I'm having the same problem ever since last Sunday. I was trying to figure out where it came from. Thank to you I know what to look for now. It makes sense because the two doors that I open and close more are driver and rear driver side. I'll check the striker tomorrow.

i've gone back to the dealer like 4 times & they can't fix it!

sent a registered letter to Chrysler Canada asking them if they have any 6 star dealers that might be able to fix the problemo since the 5 star dealer are having a difficult time

if i receive a reply from them i will llet y'all know how to proceed

The service tech who fixed mine yesterday, said that this is more common in the 4dr unlimited wranglers . that it might be do to the extended wheel base. When I explained the rattle(noise) he knew exactly what I was talking about, we went for a drive to verify and he fixed it in minutes... ( the rattle sounded like something was loose in the column where the seat belt is )

My 2010 had this rattle, and my 2011 makes this same rattle. Good to know that Chrysler has figured this out and fixed the problem in the four years the JK has been around.

Has anyone tried taking the door striker off, and dipping it in PlastiDip, the stuff you dip tool handles in?

There is a TSB for this. Ask the dealer. I had the same issue and they knew about it and fixed it no problem.
