it;s just a 15 second clip:

thank you
Mine is exactly like this. I think its coming more from the back door area. I don't have this on the passenger side, just the driver side. Oddly enough if I open the door all the way and close it its good for a while, but then comes back. To me it sounds like its the rear door rattling or something, I think its behind the pillar somewhere, like maybe even in the rear door. I know the clunk that many area talking about from the striker cause I had that too, but I did the electrical tape fix and it works fine... but now this new noise has popped up. I had my wife drive me around while I laid in the back and tried to find the rattle with no success just yet, but if anyone here figures out what this is post it here.

Mine isn't the striker... I was even wondering if it was the back door hinges... its about that height that I hear it. Oddly enough if I open the back door all the way and lift it up... I have almost 1/4" of play that I don't have on any of the other doors... not sure if this is contributing to it yet or not... Don't have time to take it to a dealer. I work too much to pay for this heep.

I just went outside again. I opened the rear passenger door all the way it would open and moved it back and forth ever so lightly putting very little strain when opening to the max... Mine is deff somewhere in the back hinge or something in that area. MP3 attached of the sound. The clicking noise you hear is the exact tone/sound of what I hear when I'm driving. No other doors do this, only the rear passenger door... at least thats the only door I've heard it on so far. I think some grease somewhere would help, but I am not sure where???

Rattle Sound

the dealer took care of me.. a good way to check if its the strike.. go down a bumpy road with the door open(or off) hold on to it drive slow enough if you dont hear the rattle its the striker, the dealer will fix it!!!

the rattle was drving me crazy, I think I know how mine got off a little, I slammed the door a month or so ago and the seat belt got caught up in the striker

its fied now!!! so far so good!!

are these noises still heard while riding with the hard top on? I can't swear that I heard anything with the hard top but i'm hearing these same "knocks" with the soft top..so I was thinking that the plastic door frames were the culprit. I've tightened those down but I'm guessing the noise is coming from inside the pillar.

I'd love to know what they did to fix this..sounds exactly like where the *noise* or knock is coming from on my 08 4dr Wrangler.

Door Knocking

I had the same problem with my 2011 JK sport. I noticed the banging whenever I hit a bump. Talked to the dealer, and they have heard of this problem but do not know of any fixes. They looked at the Jeep at the last service, and made sure the alignment was good and re-lubed the door latch assembly. The banging is gone, but I'm not sure it won't come back. I've seen too many responses where it has.

If you have a hard top, check the screws that hold the hard top down on top of the pillars. Mine would work themselves loose and I'd get a rattle from that area. You gotta crank them down pretty hard to keep them put.

Fortunately, I've never had a problem with the door/latching mechanism.

I brought my Jeep in and the dealer checked alignment and re-lubed the latching assembly. So far no more knocking. We will see how long it lasts.

Electrical tape on Strike Plate

I wrapped electrical tape around the strike plate - The noise stopped. Heading to dealership to log the issue and hopefully add another item for Jeep to pass on to others.

GeorgeJeep- Keep us in the loop as to what the dealership says. I was planning on trying the tape today to see if this would resolve my issue as well.

I had done the same thing for about a week until I decided to just move the latch plate inward 1/8". Solved the problem and I don't have to mess with tape either.

Went to dealership. They tried the grease approach. So far so good but it has only been one day. They suggested moving strike plate but I wanted to try the grease first. They said they do not see any activity on this issue (I think these are called SBEs).

I had mine in for the rattle problem ..they greased the latches and then said the hard top had not been installed properly(I don't remove the top). They removed and siliconed seals and tightened screw downs and so far( a month) no more rattle

My rattle was driving me crazy and then I noticed the above.....it was the bolt that holds the hard top down on the pillar, passenger side. Tightened and presto, no more rattle.

A month and 1000+ miles. Knocking noise has not returned. So far, the alignment and lubrication seems to be working.

I own a 2011 JK 2door with the same anoying door metal to metal sounding clunk. My dealer said there is not a TSB on this problem. As some of you have used various methods to pad the striker plate, I used the loop (fuzzy) part of a 2 inch piece of velcro cut to fit on the front and outside part of the striker. The door is noticeably tighter and the "clunk" is gone.

same problem i know lube doesnt work for long but it sure sucks dealer should fid a way to fix ..i only have 400 mile on min and not to put down the tape but you would think dealer should come up with a permenant fisx since it still has plenty of warranty left lol I believe on wearing dealer out

Have you ever mixed up a batch of 5 minute epoxy? I'm planning on mixing up about 1/2 teaspoon of it and coating the metal loop where the door striker comes in contact with it plus quite a bit further. I just haven't had time to do it. Or can't remember to do it when I have time. Anyway, if I don't like how it turns out, because the epoxy doesn't harden solid, I will be able to strip it off. I've used 5 minute epoxy a lot and wouldn't hesitate to use it on this. It will make a fairly permanent fix to the rattle.

Hi All,

I've been doing the dance with the dealer on this for about year.

Summary as follows:
1) They have no TSB on the door rattle for my 2010 JK,
2) The tape is a temp fix, no longer works on mine,
3) The latch was tightened right up but this just meant I had to slam the door.
4) I have not tried the greasing of the latch.

Today I had it back there for the same issue, they said the windscreen had some loose bolts and they tightened them up. They also said they looked at the roll bar assembly. When I picked it up there was no rattle, when i got home I had a look at the striker and they had installed a piece of automotive rubber just below the striker(without telling me).

Anyway all is good for now and I don't care how it has been fixed, as long as it doesn't rattle.

Will keep you posted on progress.

Cheers.

Cashy.

Actually the factory maintenance calls to grease door latches every maintenance period. I keep a tube of graphite lube in the jeep and give the latches a quick shot every time I change oil or when I put the doors back on. I figured that out the first time I heard the rattle.

Sounds like a fix, I'm happy as can be for now. If the rubber strip under striker no longer works I'll grab a tube of grease and see how it goes.

Cheers.

Omg, that is awful, ain't it? I actually found one of my wife's hair things and clipped it to lessen the staccato of nylon belt on plastic pillar! But jacking the radio up works just as well!

Mine done this as well, moved the striker bolt in very slightly, fixed it so far unless I hit a hard, very hard bump.
