Buy a couple of the cheap seatbelt shoulder pads from Walmart or somewhere and put them on the vertical part of the seatbelt that runs from the seatbelt "reel" to the part toward the top of the pillar. It keeps that part from slapping the plastic pillar. Works wonders.

Errrrrrrr!!

I just bought my Sahara Unlimited and this rattle is driving me crazy!! I live on a dirt road so you can imagine how annoyed I am!! I have pulled off the plastic cover.....not it.....then I swore it was the slider bracket for the seat belt....nope not it either!! On my home today...something to told me to open my door, then it was gone!!! Decided to get on the internet to do reasearch and have found 2 solutions. #1 Electrical Tape around door striker (my first choice). But for those of you if that didn't fix it, there is #2: there is a triangular plate (I think top and padding must be removed to access) in the top of the roll bar may have bolts that need to be torqued. Hmmmm, I'll let you know what I find out tomorrow when its daylight..... the tools are coming out!!

I thought I had the same problem, turns out the front bolt that holds the front portion of the hard top on was just loose enough that every bump, the washer would rattle. Drove me NUTS for about 2 months until I finally found it. Tightened it and all is well.

Just out of curiosity, is this problem common to keyless entry doors only, or both?

Regular maintenance schedule says lube the door latches. That would tell me they know this is a issue.

I don't think so. I think there may still be some stocker's out there with manual locks and windows.

Yeah, my '08 JKUR doesit, but only when off-road and on some pretty rocky trails--

It never happens on streets, so-

It's the latch/locker-

Put the tape on today! Noise is gone. Do like the addition of the automotive rubber. Will try that if the tape trick doesn't last. Love the dealer response: "we are desensitized to rattles because we work on Jeeps all day long" I call Bullsh$t!

I don't know what automotive rubber is but if you use 5 minute epoxy on it, you will get a similar effect as the electrical tape in a more permanent coating. The 5 minute epoxy will remain flexible and you can slice it off if you don't like it. The clear epoxies the are quick setting do not harden like rock. More like wire insulation.

I've got a serious case of OCD when it comes to rattles, and the annoying "thud" on the driver's side has been rearing its ugly head when I hit various bumps. I kept thinking it was in the pillar near the seat belt height adjuster but could never isolate it.

I just wrapped the front of the door latch with electrical tape and the noise went away. Woot! I then used a T45 to move the latch down a pinch and removed the electrical tape. So far the noise is gone and now the door shuts easier. This thread saved me a ton of grief - thank you.

Had this same rattle on my passenger door. At first I thought it was coming from the seatbelt rattling when no one was using it. So I took the belt and latched it accross the seat but the rattle was still there. So while doing a forum search I came accross another forum where one of the members suggested lossening the two bolts on the striker and adjusting the stricker 1/8" in toward the seat and retighten the bolts. Yes the door is slightly harder to close but not much from OEM and the rattle has been gone since. That was over three weeks ago.

Cheers

Thanks of posting everyone... This noise has been driving me bonkers... 3,000 miles since December and this little pesky noise started to get more prevalent over smaller and smaller bumps. It's a sound that you know shouldn't be there. It really pisses me off that Jeep seems to ignore this problem with so many complaints. "US" as Jeep owners have done a better job of evaluating the issue and being creative in our solutions.

The best diagnostics for this is to just open your door and find that one bump that you always hear it on and hit it!

I'm going to get my oil changed this week I'll have them look at it, but It sounds like I'll be looking into some of the suggestions you've all be giving.

1.) Electrical Tape (Quick Fix)

2.) Some sort of Rubber Pad on the inside of the door jam. (More engineering, needs precise fitment I would think)

3.) Grease/Graphite (The dealers out)

4.) Adjusting the strike plate on your own. (Sounds like the most )

5.) Epoxy/Velcro other sort of strike plate wrapping. (Sounds Ghetto)

Sounds like some of you all had a success...over all thank you... I hope I can find my fix.

Thanks !

Your best bet would be to adjust the striker. Mine is still quite! I am not big on those other fixes. I am way to OCD when it comes to my vehicle to put appoxy, tape to fix a problem when it should not be there. That simple adjustment was all that was needed.

Cheers

I Agree! Just move that Strike Plate in towards the interior of the jeep, dont move vertically!!!!. I used my trusty Torx and shut it up no problem. Door closes harder but havent heard it one!

"Thunk / Clunk" from Driver Pillar resolved

You guys (and gals) rock.

I've been bugged by what I would describe as "Thunk or Clunk" sound from my driver's pillar and I knew it couldn't be just my Jeep but I'd been searching for Thunk/Clunk/Knock... anyway that kept coming up with suspension or steering issue threads. Then I happened upon the "Door Rattle" thread. All I can say is the WranglerForum is the fount of all Jeep wisdom.

I wrapped "pressure sensitive tape" around the striker. I hope that will hold better than normal electrical tape and not leave a sticky mess.

Thunk / Clunk / Rattle (whatever you want to call it) from the door pillar is now gone.

You know what its the grease in the latch that does the trick. Get a good silicon based clear grease, (spray type) spray it in the door latch assy. (Dont drown it) Close and open the door a couple of times, repeat if necessary. Other grease doesn't do the trick, I tried it.

I had the door pillar rattle problem on my new 08. Turned the stereo up and the problem disappeared! Now, four years later, when I occasionally turn the stereo down, I have yet to hear it over the last year. It seems to have just gone away.

By coating the whole surface, the epoxy will be able to hold in place better. If someone tries this I hope you report back to the thread and let us know how it worked. It might encourage me to actually act on my suggestion. Sooner or later I will give it a go.
I would suggest waiting for the epoxy to dry before you attempt to close the door. So did anyone of you try this only to find out you glued the door shut?

I've been hearing this clunk on my 12 JKU for a couple months now. I forgot to mention it to the dealer when I had the oil changed. I'm so glad I found this thread, my husband thinks I'm crazy since he never hears it. I know it's a Jeep, my others had their clunks and rattles, but this noise really bugs me.

I've double checked everywhere to see if something was loose with no luck, I even thought it might be the ACE rails and something had worked loose.

I'm going to try moving the strike plate a bit tomorrow and see if it fixes it, along with greasing the latch.

A big thank you to all that posted remedies for this

should have looked on forum first....

I have 2012 JKU with 2400 miles on it. 2300 0f those miles I have lived with the same rattle you guys describe. It drove me crazy. I foam filled my pilars, double sided taped my pillar trim. I rode around in the back seat and touched anything that could rattle. Turns out it was the door strikers... I adjusted them in a bit until the door has more tension on it. Noise is gone.
