I am pretty set on getting the power doors/windows when I get/order my Jeep here in the next couple of months but had a quick question regarding door removal having never owned a Wrangler before.
Is door removal with the power windows/doors much more difficult or is there simply a quick connect release plug to disconnect? I tried searching the forum but could not find an answer.
very simple quick disconnect. Front doors are heavy and you need a place to store them safely. Also, when reinstalling doors, pick up some door pin guides (I think that is what they are called) from quadratech to make putting doors back on a million times easier.
Does anyone have a link to where you can get these door pin guides? I think these are a must for me. I usually work up a good sweat holding all 4 doors trying to get the damn pins lined up. Anything to make it easier would be great.
Should also be noted that even if you don't have power windows, there is still a harness that needs to be disconnected when you remove the door that controls the dome light. So really it is the same process regardless if you have power windows or not. As others have said its just a quick disconnect and only takes a second to connect/disconnect.
One of the reasons I'm planning on getting half doors on my next one is that I do love taking the doors off. Half doors are much lighter and easier to handle and store. There wasn't anything to unplug on my last one either, but that was a TJ...I don't know how the JK's are set up. I did pull my dome light fuse the first time I did it and I never put it back.

I have JK half doors and you remove them just like the full doors, they are just lighter. You still have to disconnect the wiring harness as well as the limiting strap. And oh, did I mention that they are lighter (lol)
No need to pull fuses on the JK. They thought of all that with the electrics. When the door is unplugged you won't get a dome light, or a "door ajar" warning or anything. However you will have to manually turn off your radio as there aren't any doors to open!
Leave the radio on, get out and walk away from the jeep. People will think you left it running. The radio will turn off after 30 seconds (at least on my 2013)
With power windows and locks or without the work is the same.
if you decide to add power windows it isn't overly difficult if you have some experience with removing door panels and working with cars.
The Locks are a pain to add, unless you pony up the $$ for the OEM lock replacements.

It was for this I changed to the Best top soft doors. They are a little flimsy but I'll deal with it because they weigh as much as a pencil and I can take them off while off road in seconds.
That's my plan. My Jeep stays in the garage, and when summer rolls around, the top will be off until winter. I plan to get the half doors and throw them in the back just as a rain precaution.
Summer should be here in about a month or two. Gotta Love the south...
I'm guessing then if you have aftermarket soft doors, you don't get a dome light when you enter and exit the Jeep? Unless you manually turn it on and off of course.
Just pulled the trigger on a set of these pins. Hopefully much less sweating and swearing next time I try putting the doors back on.
