Doorless/topless horror stories

We live in a high trust society here in North America, isn't it wonderful? but that doesn't help me from feeling paranoid about leaving my jeep wide open and unattended.

I only just got my jeep wrangler a few weeks ago and so far I'm loving it. this is the first week I have gone doorless and I can't help but squirm at the thought of how vulnerable I am leaving my shiny new wheels, and can't shake the question in my head; is my paranoia justified?

So I thought it would be fun and educational for us to share any horror stories we may have had with leaving your wrangler doorless, topless, and unattended. Have seagulls made a home of your back seat? Have bored youths disengaged your parking brake and pushed your jeep into traffic? has a vagrant used your upholstery as a toilet? that sort of thing

a forum member had his half doors stolen.

I keep my jeep parked right in front of my office window and I'm constantly glancing at it! :D

Someone left me a used diaper in the back seat of my old Jeep. Thankfully it was not messy, but still not cool! :)

That's just the trees getting off on your awesome Jeep, see, even the trees love Jeeps.

Worst I have had was birds decided my seats needed to be speckled white. Also had a neighborhood cat sleep on my passenger seat one night. That is about it though **knock on wood** Have parked my jeep outside no roof no doors for weeks at a time outside my townhouse near the main complex entrance and not had anything else happen...

Nothing to crazy for me. Except the mysterious storm that came out of no where a few hours ago, thankfully I just had the windows off. I've had a pen taken out of one of my cup holders, and my school parking pass taken off my interior mirror while I was parked at school. It was frustrating especially when I asked if I could tape it to my windshield because I was paranoid about it being taken. About a week later it was taken. Anyways just minor things. Best thing we can do it lock the glove box and center console and make sure we don't leave anything out that might tempt someone. Even if it is just a pen.

Just remember: if some thief comes across a LOCKED box, they are going to ASSUME that you have something VALUABLE in it and work THAT much harder to get to it.

Your best bet is to take EVERYTHING of value out of the jeep, leave EVERYTHING unlocked, and some guys even go so far as to leave the glove box and center console hanging open, so the thieves can SEE there is nothing in them BEFORE they damage something trying to get at them.

Not in my New Jeep but when I lived in Australia :

1. Land Rover- Stopped in Narrabri, NSW to gas up before hitting the trail to Waa Gorge. someone tossed a full cup of coffee in the back of my rig, dumping coffee all over my tent. There was also a wrapper from a KFC Thai chicken wrap shoved under the front right wiper.
2. Same trip, Same Rover- woke up from camping at the gorge. Some time that night either a dingo or someone's dog tried to get in the cooler of breakfast food ( bacon, eggs, and some awesome lamb steak I found in town the day before). I had it locked up, and the dingo/dog decided since he couldn't get to it he'd leave me a present...yup, hosed down the cooler with some liguid sunshine and pewped in the back.

Hard top stays on the Jeep...lol

Nothing yet! I took it to our hometown St. patties parade where they have to shut down streets. I was paranoid the whole time. I try and park it out in BFE at any where I go so people would have to purposely go out of their way to vandalize. I also try and find parking lot cameras ?

My Wrangler isn't my main mode of transport, so it only has the bare minimum, especially if the top & doors are off.

I put my registration and insurance card under the rubber tray in the top of the dashboard so that info can't be accessed easily either.

I have a subwoofer and amp bolted in. If they want to try to unbolt it, I wish them luck.

I do live in a small town, so I'm sure that helps a lot.

Well this happened one day not long after I got the Jeep, before I learned how to keep a better eye on the weather:

One time I found a wad of gum on top of my soft top when leaving work in my work parking garage (Luckily I saw it, and was able to remove it cleanly using an ice cube when I got home)

Other than that, no weird issues in 3 years! (Knock on wood)

That's a good point, I've heard of that too. Generally I just park it by a camera or in plain sight where people would see. As a highschooler, I only park at school and the baseball fields, both of which I have a good spot and people are fairly respectful. But it's a good point, I'll have to keep that in mind. Kind of a funny story, a family friend used to have a jeep when he was younger and he had a metal box locked and chained to the jeep. He said he wasn't taking any chances.

I decided to take my hard top and doors off for the day and go wheeling with some buddies. I had left the hard top and doors in my girlfriend's garage. When I went back to get them she and her parents had left, they said just come back in the morning. So I went home and realized I had a meeting in the morning with a very prestigious insurance agent, I was trying to get him as a client at my firm. Long story short I didn't have time to go to her house and get the top or doors so I had to get on the freeway in a suit without doors or a top. It was awesome, plus I ended up getting him as a client.

I came out of the supermarket last summer and found a guy sitting in the passenger seat of my JK trying to pull open my locked glove box. Let's just say, it was worth him doing it to catch him in the act! He didn't do any damage to my Jeep, but I certainly did some damage to him. The icing on the cake was that he got arrested and deported back to the country from whence he illegally came.

My wife actually took a picture of him sitting in it before I confronted him. I'll see if I can retrieve it and post it for your viewing pleasure...

Drove over 100 days topless and mostly doorless last summer, I'm pushing 30 so far this year. Worst I've had was an empty soda cup on the driver seat sitting there. I pay attention to where I park and try to keep an eye, but I can't always and I don't really worry about it.
