Doors stuck...

So I finally started trying to get my doors off...

Took the nuts of then started lifting by hand and then with a hydraulic floor jack. The jack was working well but then I noticed the bottom of the door where I was placing my 2x4 was starting to bend slightly (inside bottom of door not exterior sheetmetal).

So there they were about a half inch up but not wanting to go much further without bending anything more. So I put some penetrating oil on all 4 and worked them back down to the normal position. I figure I'll do this a few more times throughout the week and since it's going to rain all week I hope to be able to work them the rest of the way off.

Anyone have anymore suggestions?

I roll the windows down and use my shoulders on the top inside of the window and pull from the bottom at the same time. Works good.

Try using a long 2x4 to pry the door off. Put the 2x4 under the door and inside the jeep. Stand outside and pull up on the end of the 2x4. Try this at various points on the door and it should slide up relatively easyily. Shouldn't bother the door at all, but if you're concerned about it you could always lay a towel/cloth between the door and 2x4.

make sure you have the door open far enough or the notches on the door at the hinge hang up on the hinge. you have to open it beyond perpindicular to the body itself.

Is the wiring for the windows/locks the same kind of "disconnect" as the Hard Top? Not that this will help with getting them off, but I was curious as I haven't taken mine off yet.

Swinging the doors open and closed while lifting has helped others in the past.

Are the doors opened far enough?

I've been successful by reaching through the window grabbing the handle and rocking the door back and forth like others already said. I did have to pull like hell the first time. The front drivers wouldn't move so I used my high-lift, a 2X4 and a cloth. Once I had some pressure on the door I had my wife move it back and fourth and it slowly came off the hinges.

Whoa, hold on, taking the doors off shouldnt be difficult at all! Im guessing that the door hinge is bent somehow, maybe an accident at the factory? But both doors, thats weird, be careful.

mine are still difficult to get off 3+ years later. I still use a long 2x4 and a folded towel to pry them up. I've used lithium grease and that's helped a lot but the 1st couple of times it was a real bear to do. all i can tell you is be careful in prying them off and a second pair of hands really makes the job easier.

You might want to remove the hinges from the body and then try removing the hinges from the door while they're off the vehicle.

I had the same problem, what works for me, is putting my hands as close to the hinges as possible and lifting from there. The further back from the hinges your hands (or lifting mechanism is) the harder it is to come off.

When I first got my jeep the doors came off not a prob, the next year they where a bitch, and have been a bitch ever since, I put never seze on them every time I put them back on now. To get them off I use a 2x4 and place it under the door and the door jam, allways works but don't do by your self, have someone hold the door while you pry, cuz it's rely easy to pop the door off and have it land on your foot, and trust me it hurts like hell!!!!!

I had a tough time getting my passenger door off. I just bought an '07 Sahara and I don't think they ever had the doors off. I put one of the screws back in, put the torx driver in with a long extension and started beating it with a dead blow hammer. That loosened it a little but not enough to get the door off. Out of desperation and lack of time I put my thighs under the door as close to the hinges as possible then lifted and stood up at the same time, nearly had a hernia, but the door came out (not without a nice bruise on my thigh). I would be very nervous about using a hydraulic jack, too easy to tweak something. But this is just what worked for me.

Just took the doors off of my JK Rubi today, wanted to go ahead and do it before any road grime built up on or in the hinges--absolutely no problem at all. Doors came off easy, then lubed the hinges and the door hinge posts with a lithium based aerosol lube, put the doors back on and torqued the bolts down to 75 inch pounds.

I think the key is to get the doors off as soon as possible after taking delivery.

This is great advice! Once I get mine, I will likely have a post entitled "Can't...Don't Want to Put My Doors On"

I have a 2011 JK, and had an 08 before that. I use the same trick as before. I unhook the wiring harness, and the door stop. Sit on the door sill with your legs under the door and the door half closed, and with your feet flat on the ground, or with something solid under them. Then push up with your calves till your heels are off the ground. By the time you force you legs up under the door with your heels off the ground, the door pops right outta the hinge.

Always works for me.

I was thinking the same thing.
I took mine off the first time when my jeep was only a couple weeks old.

Finally! Talked to a few fellow jeepers from the hall of fame 4x4 group who came by my old church as I was leaving to take care of a work issue and they showed me exactly where to put the 2x4 under the door and after some convincing they finally popped off

I am glad I didnt drop them on my foot ( I was wearing sandals ) but my rear doors were a PIA to remove, I almost gave up, and one last good tug and got it off, but the pin on the bottom hinge ended up hitting the bottom of the top hinge and I chipped it . what a bummer / first war wound, from removing the doors...

I was worried about dropping them as well but they aren't too bad as long as you swing them out far enough and lift with your back and not your legs
