Double din?

Hi, I just got a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X and was wondering if it was possible to get a double din dvd playing screen with bluetooth to replace my smaller radio. If so, what would be the best bang for your buck?

yep, you just need to get the plastic adaptor plates and wiring harness. your second question depends on how much you want to spend.

Yep, a DD Unit will Fit.

The Kenwood DDX419 is the Best Bang for the Buck, IMO.

So any double din will fit and I guess I would need an installation kit. Are those universal too?

I spent $700 on a JVC that would play movies. It was awesome until it stop working after 3 months. Tried to warranty it through JVC and they sent me a beat refurbished unit. They explained to me that is how they warranty units.

DO NOT BUY A JVC ANYTHING... HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

I have a Pioneer AVH-X4500BT double din unit.

It has built-in BT and plays DVDs. I did the bypass mod as well so I could play movies while moving if I needed to (for passengers).

Got it from Crutchfield for about $500 I do believe.

Thanks for the help! I noticed you guys have those double din units installed in Jeep Unlimiteds. My Wrangler X (2 door) has a single din unit.
Would, say, a Pioneer or Kenwood model still fit?

I think what you are showing above is a double din. It has to be because the navigation option is double din and fits in the same space.

For those of you that run these aftermarket units, are you concerned with security when parking in public places with the top off? How often do you run naked?

i run naked all the time in summer. i installed a prox alarm, but i'm not really concerned about the radio. it doesn't look any flashier than the OEM nav units. They'd have to know how to remove the dash panel, or they'd have to saw the dash to get it out, in the process probably wrecking the radio. Fortunately, that panel is only like $80 even if they take a stab at it.

I run with the top down and doors off more than they're on. I'm not worried about it being stolen. I try to not to concern myself with those thoughts. If someone wants it they're going to steal it. Que sera sera.

And above is correct, that OEM head unit you showed above is a double din size opening. All Wranglers come with a double din-compatible dash.

I have the stock base level unit in mine and figured I would leave it that way. After all, who would want to steal that? I do wish that I had some kind of blue tooth capacity for cell phone use but I am not going to shell out the big bucks for the connection package from MOPAR.

I might talk myself into one of these aftermarket units now that you guys had to go and post pictures of yours causing me to say "Hey, that is pretty cool. Looks like it has nice options on it too."

I guess you don't see car stereo thefts like you used to 20-30 years ago unless you are forced to park it outside at an apartment complex.

The biggest thing that always bothered me was having friends that got stereos stolen and the thieves would do $1,000 worth of damage to the dash just to get a $250 head unit out.

Did you have to buy a bracket? I think that is what you have in both sides of the stereo, right?

http://bit.ly/LuktcJ this is the face kit you'd need. I have a Pioneer AVH-P8400BH in my rig. Also just a heads up if your going to be installing this urself the dash will require modification. Have to cut the top cross bar out and cut some plastic off under the top cover.

That install looks clean! Nice job. I have an 08 X myself and have been shopping around for a good unit. I'm trying to find a decent priced one that is compatible with the iPhone 5s. Also. It seems the wiring harness I would need to purchase to do the install are very pricey too. Are there any plug and play radios out there?

Yep. You may have to do a little cutting, but it'll fit just fine.
Here's a pic of the Pioneer HU that I have in my 2010 (USB, DVD, & rear camera, but no BT):
