Driver Seat Height Adjuster

I've got an '08 X (4 door, not that this really matters for this issue but as they say... the more you know...) anyway... my drivers seat height adjuster isn't staying where I put it. Is there a way to tighten, or somehow lock it in place? I know it's not a big deal, but I like my seat to stay where I put it! lol

Mine does the same thing... slowly over time returning to its "unraised" state. For me it's still okay to drive like that, so I don't always notice for a few days.

Not sure how to stop that from happening though.

Mine stays put wherever I set it... 2010 JK Sport. I'm not that heavy though, just incase that matters, I weigh about 120.

It has happened to me on both of my JK's I know it's done it again when I reach up to adjust the rearview mirror and wonder who tilted my mirror a bit? LOL

My opinion is the lever gets bumped by your butt as you slide out dropping the seat a fraction every time.

Havent tested this theory by removing the handle yet, will soon though!

Yup, that is exactly the problem. Someone over at JK-F has removed the handle and not had any more droppage since.

Aha! Good call. I do kind of slide out because I'm too tall to make use of the rock rails as a foot step.

We have a winner!

My solution was to pull the handle off and reposition it. Unfortunately the only position it will go back on is pointing straight down at the floor. It works 100 percent, never needing adjustment until you choose to.

Nice fix, I will try this as I couldn't figure out how my seat kept lowering itself when I was the only driver for a while

I Did this but I couldn't stand the handle pointing to the floor so I had to mod it:

First pull off the handle with a T-40 torx and use a vise w/sockets as a press to pop out the serrated insert,

Then take a Dremel tool and grind out the little "keyed" portion of the plastic in the handle,

After determining your preference on handle position, Press the insert back into the handle with the vise and sockets as shown as it is a very tight fit.

Reinstall!

No more hitting your butt on the handle on the way out and lowering the seat!

Thanks for the ideas. Mine was making a wear pattern on the seat cover.

I wish there was a way to lower the seat more. I'm 6'7" and I could use another inch or so lower...

Hmmm I may have to research that some.

Removed mine, starting to wear on the seat from getting in and out, not to mention I have to pull it up all the time.

Tagola to do the mod posted.

Same here. I'm only 6' 1" but I need it about an inch lower. I looked around under there yesterday and didn't see any obvious way to do that without cutting and welding. I don't think I'll go that far but if there is another solution I'd like to know.

Clicking or knocking when starting

I just bought my first Jeep Wrangler about 3 weeks ago and I love everything about it. EXCEPT! It is a 08 and every so often when i go to start it just makes a clicking sound and wont start until I keep doing it for awhile. I had the dealer just replace the starter and it is still doing it. Does anyone else have any ideas of the problem or ren across this issue? PLEASE HELP!

You came to the right thread. Take off the handle and reposition it. All is solved!

I am 5'11" and wish I could get my drivers seat to go an inch or two higher. I like to be as high as I can when I am driving. That didn't come out right did it?

It was easy on my CJ-7, just buy longer bolts and fender washers.

What did they do? Crank the handle a few times to lift the seat again?

I had this issue also. I mostly ignored it until multiple other issues with my 09 Unlimited started to add up. (Currently in Lemon Law negotiations with Chrysler) I brought it to my Jeep Dealer's attention when they were repairing something else and they said it was fine. I complained about it a second time during the next repair(have spent 45 days in the shop over 3 years since purchase)and they decided to replace the seat frame! Of course it is still happening and now I understand why. I would be a lot more embarrassed about such a simple solution if the dealer wasn't so clueless!
Thanks for this thread and the explanation all.

Sounds like a weak battery, bad battery connections or possibly solenoid issues(if they still have them). Rarely would clicking upon turning the key be a bad starter. Usually low voltage to the starter. I just spent $1200 on 3 starters and a fly wheel for a 76 vette....all because my battery terminals werent making good contact.

Mine has been to the dealer 2 times, last time they replaced the seat frame and the dang thing still lowers itself in a few days. i'll remove the handle and try this.. I thought I was careful not to hit the handle on the way out...anyway I'll post back in and let know how it goes... thanks!

Stupid question: how do you remove the handle? I looked at mine and couldn't see any connection of any kind... What am I missing?

I didn't know the seat was electrically powered

Pop off the center cover, there's a Torx behind it.
