Why couldn't you just put the transfer case in neutral to tow it?

My OM (for a '13) says for flat towing behind another vehicle to put the transfer case in neutral, the transmission in P (auto) or in gear (manual) and tow in a forward direction. I see no reason why you would disco the shafts.

That said, if you choose to drop the driveshafts be advised, I think they used about a half gallon of blue loctite on mine at the factory. Not real easy to break them free the first time.

There is no transfer case in the 2 wheel drive models.

From the Owner's Manual:

Towing – 2WD Models
Recreational towing is allowed ONLY if the rear driveshaft
is removed. See your authorized dealer or refer to
the Service Manual. Towing with the rear wheels on the
ground while the driveshaft is connected can result in
severe transmission damage.
