I am in Pa and posted in the Pa forum but this issue effects many more of us that choose to exercise our vehicles functionality as it relates to door removal only to put ourself at odds with regulations that prohibit the activity.
----Let's NOT turn the discussion over to us vs them type argument, that accomplishes nothing----- For those who do not want/choose to drive without doors, again - nothing to see here.
For those who do not see a problem with donning auxillery mirrors, belting in and going for a ride at your own risk - effecting no other driver on the road and would like to do so without risking warnings, tickets etc. - get involved with changing things for the better and facilitating that activity.
How?
We have to reach out to organizations, clubs, vendors (Quadratec, Rausch Creek, etc) Anyone in Pa (or any other state that has DOT regs prohibiting driving doorless) There is strength in numbers.
In Pa it is permissable (legal) to operate a motorcycle without a helmet yet taking your doors off your Jeep is not.
There is selective interpretation/enforcement which makes driving town to town problematic. Things like bumpers 30"+ off the ground seem to go unfettered despite the clear danger that presents to "other" drivers again, No Doors is an issue...... doesn't make a lot of sense.
FYI- The enforcement "trend" currently building includes safari doors, Tube Doors etc They are a No-No as well.
This is a Forum request to Get Involved by emailing your State Representative, Calling PennDOT, reaching out as a club OR to clubs and organizations.
IF this gets attention called to it - We can get it changed and make some real progress that makes sense.
Thank you
Rubi
