Driving Lights mounted to Factory Front Bumper

How is everyone (anyone?) mounting their driving lights to the factory front bumper? I expected there to be mount points but don't see any, and have not found a light bar that I'm too wild about. Someday I'll get an aftermarket bumper - but not till next year probably (unless someone nails my fine, stock plastic unit). I have the Hella 500 driving lights.

Thanks.

Try this from Quadratec, probably perfect for what you need. http://www.quadratec.com/products/12110_201.htm

I have just been where you are and I did mount my 7 inch warn hid lights on the factory bumper. Right above the fog lights u can drill through the plastic and there is steel about a quarter of a inch below the plastic. Lites mounted pretty good but It kind of distorts the plastic when you tighten them up. After about a month I just ordered a stainless rr xhd bumper, black tool box ends and the black grill guard and mounted the lights again in the holes that came on the bumper. I got the non winch mount bumper, as who needs a winch when you drive a jeep. Gave the factory bumper and air dam to a buddy whose wife dinged his in. My jeep looks so much better without that stupid air dam and I think it runs cooler and gets better Mileage. I also added a teraflex one inch spacer to the front as all 11 JK's have that terrible factory rake. So to do it over I would never mount anything to the front bumper (factory) as it is a waste of time. I would just Wait until u get a new bumper, then mount the lights, as rewireing is not that easy. If u really want to mount the lights to the factory bumper they make a kit that mounts to the frame and comes out over the factory bumper and has a light mounting brackets. It requieres cutting of the plastic behind the bumper and is pricey, sold on quadratrac if you must have. I just love my new bumper and my next and last mods are, maybe the hotheads, headliners and a set of 488 Yukon gears. Maybe 513s as I haven't decided for sure.

Thanks to all - several options look good. I would love to get a new bumper but after $38K I'm not anxious to keep shellin' it out! Especially since the bumper I like is the AEV unit which is rather pricey (but no doubt worth it).

Thanks,

Know your pain, and my fiance asked me yesterday if "we" were going to pay for this forever. I say "we" because she has yet to drop a dime but sure has driven it a lot!

I honnstly recommend to mount additional light as much possible NOT in front of your radiator. From my last experience those lights are obstructing Air intake and in time especially in hot summers or serrious offroading you will notice either overheating and/or trans cooling issuse (auto shifters). Your engine is starving withou much air, especially if you own a diesel; engine needs air a lot of air to survive during time and usage.
Just a friendly advice.
Try mounting additional lights on the hood in front of your shield or a top bar etc.
Or try offroad led bars which are much more efficient and smaller.
Sincerly yours
John

Lots of good options I was definitely concerned about the airflow obstruction and was leaning towards bumper mount to the outside of the grill like JimBoxes and RB-10Rubicons.

I'll have to poke around the bumper and see how to mount directly to the bumper top like RB-10Rubicon and JK Sahara. I just assumed that was plastic and would not make a solid mount.

Thanks to all!

I like that too. I wouldn't mind keeping my stock bumper but dunno what's under all that plastic. I'd need to weld a hitch receiver on top of the bumper...can that be done ?

Check Quadratec for Olympic bumpers JK/JKU and they're about $270 bucks, I don't have the Pt# with me--

There hasn't been any change in the front 4/bolt per side mounts--

Good luck

Thanks Jim. You're much faster than the chat guy at Q/trac

Do you have a suggestion for a grill guard/top loop thingy for it ?

The RR light bar I see for the JK looks higher than your sisters - did she use the TJ light bar?
Thanks,
