I know I want a soft top, but think I want a hard top also for the winter months (I'm in Atlanta, so winters are not too harsh). Getting the hard top now adds $800, and $2,600 if I wait to buy later. A local dealer has said to just go with the soft because people who get both always end up just using one or the other (and those wanting soft take the hard top off and never put it on again). I know this is likely a personal decision and may depend upon where the person is located, but I'd appreciate any advice you can give me on this. This is my last decision to make before placing an order (JKU Sport S).
One other point about getting the hardtop and then an aftermarket soft top, they come in different colors. I have a cherry red rubicon 2dr on order with the dual top option. I recently saw a picture of the same rig with a tan soft top on the Bestop site and it looks fantastic! Now I'm wondering how much I can get for a stock brand new soft top. I bet it would look great with the black forest green too. Something else to think about.
I wish I would have gotten both. I went with just the soft top base model, thinking I'd find a cheap hard top later (my buddy owns a junk yard, thought I'd get one off one that rolled in there). It would stay in the garage all summer, that's for sure, but I wish I had the hard top during the winter. Just for noise control, holds in heat better, easier to clean etc. I'm still hoping to find a hard top some time. Sooo if anyone has one for the 2011 unlimited, let me know
