Well after looking at this thread I just found out I need some parts for my super good deal Craigslist find! I got a soft top, frame and rear bar for 400 bux but nothing else. Looks like I need the door surrounds, long screws, windows and tail gate retainer clips. Anyone know where to find these parts in one package?

ok so i am DEFINATELY the minority here...i'm a 2 door guy

anyway i'm getting a 2013 PREMium soft top from a guy that bought a Sahara with the DUAL TOP group but doesn't want the softy..it's new, never used and in boxes..I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow night..

i have 3 issues

1. the brackets that mount the soft top frame to the roll bar..anyone have pics? I made sure to mention to the guy that i want them..cuz he's gonna have to remove them since they came mounted from the factory...but i honestly don't know what they look like..

2. I have heard the straps that hold up the rear window if you roll it up tend to scratch the window....any tips? tricks? on whats better?

3. I have also heard there is a radio volume drop when you go to soft top ? ? ? but you can put a jumper wire in the electrical connector to trick the jeep?...any input?

Thanks boys......

For the 2013 4 doors does anyone have problems with getting these in the door. I cannot seem to get them in once have the rear corners in.

This is the passenger side bracket. The driver side is just a mirror image of it.

I can't help with the other stuff as I have yet to install my soft top...still waiting on those brackets.

Thank you very much for writing up the PDF guide. I plan on putting my girlfriend's soft top on this week, which is not something either of us have done before, so your guide will save us from the potential headaches.

Ya my problem is not getting the top installed, but putting the side windows on so they fit in the door jam correctly. I cannot seem to get them in the door once I have put the back panels in. How is everyone putting these side windows in? zipper, door jam, bottom clip, or door jam zipper bottom clip............

Ahh, just realized yours is a 2 door this applys to 4 doors. No clue if the 2 door has the same brackets as 4 door. If they have spring assists on the 2 door I would think they look the same.(Edited)

Just put a 2013 soft top on today major pain in the &^*&^.. First let me say the bow brackets pictured a few post earlier are the 2012 and down type, on the premium top they look nothing like that.Mine are on already so I can't take a pic.

Both types mount the same onto roll bar. But instead of two loop holes sideways facing straight back they have a rectangle flat plate going long ways down and bolt holes facing to back there is also a notched key slot in the top of it. The premium top has the spring assist which slides into the key slot then the two bolt together. Just make sure you have the 2 straps on the spring assists to hold arms together before putting the two together or you will struggle.

Now the side windows, That took sometime. I started the zipper a few inches then I pushed in the front edge in. Then I zipped the horizontal portion of the zipper and couldn't zip around bend to vertical. I let it sit in the sun for about 3 hours before it loosed up enough to tug and pulled without risking damage to zipper, done. Then had to wait a little while longer to get the vertical portion of the other window. I also had trouble with rear window bar seating in brackets that took half a day also.

The front latches also a pain. I'll admit I'm afraid to put the top down and may have to go thru the same nightmare again. lol

Great pdf

Awesome stuff. Saved me a lot of headaches. It was not easy, but I'm jumping the gun here a bit. Was only 45 degrees and the top was very tight. But, with some help I got it on. Only part I still question is the side windows. Does the L bracket just sit inside the frame for the back door? Or does that get rolled under into a slot in the frame similar to the sail panels? Right now they are just sitting inside of the frame, but that doesn't seem right or secure/ tight enough.
Thanks!

There is a slot there to roll them into , if you just tuck them into the door like you have it now, they'll pop out at speed.

^^ yeah, they roll and tuck completely into the door surround. It takes some "finessing" the first few times around, but it does tuck in real tight

Just spent the last 90 minutes "installing" the soft top on my 13'. Still don't have it on. The rear sails are WAY to far from tucking in. Clearly Jeep wins the most fxck'd up design award.

Lol. I hear ya! Two things: The first time you pull the rear sail panels down and try to tuck them in their slots, it will seem impossible. Mine were about 4-6"s off reaching. I had to pull down on the top rear corners at the same time with some force. It gets MUCH easier the second time and every time after that. Also, weather plays a huge factor. Wait for a nice warm sunny day to do it.

I finally raised the roof: removed the hard top (now resting on DIY cart) and installed the soft yesterday. Amazing that an iconic manufacturer can produce so many reams of useless manual pages - plus irritatingly scored videos - while a couple dedicated drivers can produce and openly share clear, easy-to-follow guides. Score a big one for the drivers - and THANKS to the drivers on this and other threads.

Great write up!

I finally got my hoist built, my spiderwebshade on, and the soft top installed (kinda).

I see that I have to go redo my rears where they tuck into the doors.

Also, I'm not sure if my window bar is installed correctly. The two rubber "corners" that stick out seem to stick out pretty far.

What a pain in the arse....and getting to my cargo area with a Tuffy enclosure is now impossible without removing the rear window. I guess that makes it nice and secure.

Panter, my rubber flaps also stuck out from being packaged up. I took my time and held them as flat as I could and shut the tailgate on them. After. Week or so they had laid themselves down and now are fine. Same with the window bar itself, super tight at first, but now I can remove and replace it a bit easier.

I am not sure someone answered or not but the way you did it is how I did as well at first. Then someone showed me that the side part will actually fit into the groove of the plastic piece. Just attatch the zipper and only start it a couple of inches then put that whole edge into the slot.

It is tight getting the sides zipped but it is much better this way. Will supply pics if needed. It is dark right now though.

Great instructions - thanks! Just installed the softtop for the first time, just needed a 2nd person to push down on the rear top so I could get the rear flaps hooked on.

I haven't tried it yet, but was wondering if, instead of getting someone to push down at the rear, could you attach a couple of tie downs to the cage and the rear seat anchors and apply some gentle tension? I have a 13 2 door dual top.

Appreciate the effort, but after spending too much time taking off the hard top and reading this thread, I'm going to pay the dealer the $50 to put on the soft cover. Life's too short.

Blastek,

Thanks so much for taking the time to make this tutorial. I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out the soft top installation myself (Jeep should be embarrassed by their manual), and then another hour or so searching the Net before coming across your guide.

To me, the most confusing part was how to install the rear window tension bar clips. Your photos immediately solved that dilemma for me. My soft top is fully installed and ready to roll. To anyone who may be feeling discouraged about switching tops, this guide makes the process ridiculously simple!

Great job!

Guys--thanks for this thread and the PDF. I've searching everywhere even called two separate dealers to ask about the soft top bow brackets. (they seem to know nothing)

I have a 2013 4 door that only came with the hard top. I purchased a 2013 premium soft top on CL and need to determine if i need brackets to attach the top and what the part numbers are.

Here's a pic of the top---if anyone can tell me if i need brackets and the part numbers it would be great. If you have a picture of the 2013 bracket that would also be helpful.

Thanks!

You're missing the roll bar brackets. You need to get them from the dealer, and they are 2013 specific as that was the first year of the spring assist mechanism, which uses different brackets. You'll need the left and right brackets, 4 bolts to attach the brackets to the roll bar, and 4 bolts to attach the top to the brackets.

Thanks--this helps allot --i figured the pre '13 brackets wouldn't work. Now i know for sure.

Next i need to find a dealer that understands.

If anyone has the part numbers let me know.

Thanks!
