Dumb soft top question JKU...

Ok. So i have a 2007 JKU and I bought a sweet 2011 or 2012 OEM soft top from a guy. It's pretty much brand new my dad and I got it installed last weekend.

My question is this. Are all JKU tops able to go "halfway" down? What I have is a top that when you release the clips behind the sun visors I can put it halfway down and it's then held in place by two "latches". Can I drive around with the top in this position? Or is that a no no? I've been doing it around town and it's been ok. Just want to make sure I'm not an idiot.

Thanks for the input.

Yep, it's called the Sunrider position. You should remove or unzip the rear window if you're going over 40 mph.

yes u can drive like that, but if you do, be sure to take out the rear window for better airflow. if you don't its gonna really drag u down coasting down the highway. i mostly drive like that during those doggy trips (side windows prevent her from leaning over)

Yeah I thought it was ok. But I wanted to make sure as I've seen some things posted online that there is a "Sunrider" top and then a "softtop". The sunrider top seems to "slide" backwards is how they describe it. Mine definetely flips backwards and is held in place by the two snap latches (best way to describe them).

So either way I should be ok correct?

regarding the oem tops....the soft top is the sunrider (positioned halfway), and the sunrider is the soft top. aftermarket have different variations of it.

ur correct.

Completely cosmetic but if you have it back in sunrider mode, take a minute to fold it in so it looks neater. Some tops are just thrown back and it looks messy. Just my OCD maybe.

You'll be just fine running like that, as everyone else said make sure to open the rear window. You'll get some very unpleasant buffeting at around 50MPH with it in.

Also, make sure that you have the straps on it or it'll open like a sail at any decent speed. (ask me how I know) Other than that, enjoy the new top!

The first time I put the soft top on, I couldn't even latch it. So I played the damsel-in-distress card and actually went back to dealership. It took three guys pulling and tugging before it was latched. It was one of the sales guys that showed me how to neatly fold and tuck the material so it wouldn't look messy. First jeep and I've learned a lot about her in the last 23 months.

I accidentally unclipped the hinge for the Sunrider when I only wanted that open. The whole top folded back and scared the crap out of me. I was at work and had to get 2 guys to come out and help. I had one to hold the top up, another to clip the hinges in, and then I fought with the latches. Let's just say I don't try to put the top up in 40* weather any more.
