Anyone install the stock size 255/75 R17 Duratrac tires yet? I'd like to see some pics of them!

I'm sure they do it for cost and MPG but it'd be nice to at least have an option for all terrains on the sport.

Maybe the duratrac will replace the sr-a on future models.

Given that they were already available in 265/70R17, why is everyone so excited about this size? I mean, it's nice, but I run the 265/70R17 in an AT KO and I can't see any reason why I would rather have a 255/75?

Looks really good! I'm thinking of going with stock size for my daily driver but the sr-a tires are just too boring.

In the Duratracks:

255/75/17 = 32" tall by 7.5" wide (stock size 17's)
265/70/17 = 31.7" tall by 8.2" wide

The height difference would not even be noticeable but they are nearly a full inch wider.

255/70/18 = 32.1" tall by 8" wide (stock size 18's)
275/65/18 = 32.1" tall by 9" wide

Same height but a full inch wider.

I should mention that the tire width I used is tread width. Section width would be the total width of the tire and all of the above are 11" or under.

If they are the same height you will not have to change your PCM as your speedo will still be the same but a little extra width will look good IMO.

Good question since the 265s are nearly an inch wider overall and not just on the tread.

Not sure how much play room there is... Although, I've heard of folks running 285s on stock and only get slight rubbing at full turn, etc. Might clear a 265 with no issues.

From what I have read as long as the section width is 11" or less you will not have any rubbing on stock wheels.

More like $80.00 extra for all 4 tires in the 17" size. As per TireRack.

It doesn't seem too bad to me when you are spending around $700.00 already but it is your money and I am not telling you how to spend it.

Math... failed me again! haha 5 tires are $795 for the 255s' compared to $1100 for the 265's. Granted the 265's at LT tires but thats $300 that can go somewhere else on the Jeep, because lets be honest, its not going to savings with a Jeep in the driveway :whistling:

The Duratracks come in both a 265/70/17 and an LT265/70/17 so unless you want an LT you don't have to step up to get that size.

I agree, I spend it on tires or it will be something else. I've been looking at bumpers too.

Thanks for the pic. I still think the duratracs look better than the SRAs even if the tread is narrower.

Not to hijack my own thread but did you plasti dip your wheels?

#26 ·
I agree the Duratracs look better even being a bit narrower and I don't regret the purchase at all.
Yes, I dipped the wheels and I'm very satisfied with the outcome. I can also say that I had to touch up the wheels after the shop put the Duratracs on because the tire changer peeled a little bit of the Plastidip off. It only took about 10 minutes to fix.

I've been thinking about dipping mine too. Looks good, man!

I just had the Duratracs in 265/70/17 put on my 2010 Sport about 2 months ago. I replaced the stock sr-a tires. They look amazing and no rub at all. Have a friend that's a mechanic and he ordered them for me at his cost-$900 and I got a $60 mail-in rebate. He mounted them on stock rims. I probably would have went with stock size Duratracs but they came out right after I got mine. Kinda glad cause they are cool :)
Your Plasti dip looks great! May have to try that this spring :). Though I won $800 at the casino the other night and I am trying to talk myself out of new rims.

Any pics of the 265s by chance?

I haven't taken the time to figure out how to post pics yet but I snapped a quick photo with my cell and made it my avatar. Hope this helps...

From what I can make it out it looks like a definite upgrade over the SRAs but not sure it looks much different in size than the 255 duratracs. Nice jeep!

Got my DuraTrac Stock size tires today (255/75 R17). They actually seem a bit bigger than the stock SRAs.

Green, that's exactly what I plan on doing! Got a 2012 JKU, just want something a little more aggressive than the Wrangler 255/75/17 stock SRA's... Look's good, any issues with the TPM system when you got new rubber put on? Just a "swap" of the tires, nothing else correct? ..I plan on keeping/using my stock rims also, same as your's...No problems swapping just the tires to the Duratracs?

#40 ·
Thanks!

Nope, no problems at all. Just a standard tire change. TPMS are all working correctly.

Tires ride great and really give it a nice look.

You'll be happy with it.

They are the same size. However the SRAs measures to about 31.5 on my jeep. These duratracs measures 32.
