Duratrac 33x12.5x15 Question

Guys, I know this is a really popular set to run on this forum (with 15x8 level 8 trackers for example). I love how they look and really want to put them on my new JKUR with the Teraflex Leveling Kit. But those tires are not recommended for an 8" rim...and I was told by local shops (even though I am going to purchase through this forum with Discount Tire) that they would NOT mount them on the 15x8 rims for that reason.

Is there a safety concern? Am I missing something? Please let me know if you know. Thanks! I cannot find any rims that are 15x8.5 with the right offset, except for the level 8 trackers.

Discount Tire mounted mine on 15x8 MB TKOs, no problem, no questions asked. Been running them over a year without issue, rotated three times.

I have the same tire on the 15x8 level 8 trackers from Discount Tire and love them.

yeah, big fran...yours is the picture that made me go this way. Your jeep looks great. I've decided against spending the money on a lift right now (except maybe the teraflex leveling kit)...and just think this combo looks great.

have you done any off-roading with it? I'm wondering under flex, how much of an issue the 33x12.5 duratracs will be with rubbing on the stock jkur. Love the look of bushwacker flat fenders. Ever see a jku with 33's, no lift, and flat fenders? Wondering how it looks.

You'll rub a lot when you flex the suspension offroad, especially on a rubicon if you disconnect the front sway bar.

Thanks, I love the look too.

I have a set of the Bushwacker flats but have not had the time to put them on yet. I haven't had time to go off road yet but hope to soon. Been trying to get my mods installed in my spare time.

You wont be sorry with this tire and wheel combo. Mine rides just as good as it did with the stock tires.

I have my DT's on 16X8 Pro Comp 7069's.
I've heard that with a narrower rim you need to be careful when you air down. At real low PSI it's easier to roll the tire off the rim. Again, just what I've heard.

I think it's the opposite. A narrow rim will hold the bead better "poor mans beadlocks"

I was in Pep boys picking up some wash an' wax and I noticed some 33 x 12.50s. I started talking to "the" offroad guy and he not only told me that 15s would not fit my 2013, but that the narrowest rim I could go was 10". I told him, that's funny cause I have some friends that run 15x8s and 33s. His confusion was priceless.

I trust the forum before a shop any day of the week.

It's true, 15x8 level 8 trackers with 33x12.5x15 Duratracs fit just fine.

Local shops are usually best for modded vehicles. Places like pep boys, good year, Wally World, etc, etc, only require they're people to be able to read, not think. "Agh..... The computer says it won't fit." I've had places refuse to install larger tires than stock because of policy. Sheesh.

It's perfectly safe. They only negative is that about 1/2" or so of the tire will not be used as much (the outer edges.) However, you will have more traction offroad and they bite better ont he sides when aired down...plus they do a better job or protecting the rim. Don't sweat it and find a new shop...or better yet, buy them already mounted, balanced and shipped directly from Discount Tire.

This. With a teraflex leveling kit, you will only rub a little bit on a rubi and if disconnected. Flat flares will cure that problem. With onroad and medium flexing, you will have no issues.

Reason for what? Nor airing down a 2 ply tire too far? Generally speaking if you are airing down, it means you are going over some rocky stuff. A 2 ply tire would be very easy to shred if a rock were to give it a little rubadub.

Nope don't mean that.
Most other Goodyear Duratracs wheel sizes come in a 3 ply E load range or a few come in C or E and a very few are D range. *Except for all the 15'' wheel sizes are 2ply C.
I was just wondering if weight or balancing was a factor for the smaller 15'' wheels and why they wouldn't offer the more durable sidewall like the other rim sizes.
Sorry, if this got off on a tangent.
