Duratracs or not? Help me decide

I want to run 33's and am thinking I will either run 15's and mickey thompson mtz's 33x12.50. Now according to their website their diameter is 32.8" so they're not "true" 33's. I thought about running 305/70/16 mtz's but they're about $60-70 more each than the 33's and buying 5 that extra adds up quick.

On the other hand I got a quote from my local goodyear shop today for some 305/70/16 duratracs and installation on the 16's i would get, plus the $60 rebate and the tread lightly discount for just about as much as I would spend on 15's and the 33" mtz's so I'm having a tough time making a final decision.

I will spend 60-70% (maybe a little more) on the road so I have to factor that in. I have talked to a couple people on here and in person that have run the mtz's and said they last forever and are pretty decent on the road. Plus everyone on here seems to be in love with the Duratracs so that says a lot too.

I don't know what to do as I could be equally as happy(i think) with whichever setup I choose, but can't seem to pick one.

The DuraTracs won't be "true" 33's, either. Most tires are smaller than their named size. My 35's are really 34's, in the eyes of God and the AEV Procal.

I have head ALOT of great reviews on the Duratracs, I will most likely go with them when its time to replace the KM2's I currently have.

The reason that most buy Duratracs 33X12.5X15's is because of the weight. They are one of the lightest good tires you can buy. This causing you to have less stress on your jeep and better gas mileage. The Duratrac have a excellent snow rating and great on road reviews. There are better tires for mud though.

So it's up to you. Are you looking for mud tires or a aggressive all terrain.

I am going to the duratrac's myself because I rarely mud run even though I hit the trails often. I have the heavy MT on right now and not really liking them for the long haul. Plus the Duratrac should hold up longer then M/T's but time will tell.

Thanks for the input. I can get the 16's I want and DT's for approximately $40 more, give or take a little bit, than I can get the mtz's and 15's. I really don't care which wheel size I end up running, it's really just down to which tire.

Yes I agree, I have read more good things about the DT's than I have mtz's and most tires to be honest. I think they may be my choice. Thanks

Yes the lighter weight is one thing that is drawing me to them. I don't get into a lot of mud either. I live in virginia now, but am moving to Denver in September so I am thinking I really should go with the DT's for all the snow traction they have

You won't be disappointed with the Duratracs and they do well offroad here in Colorado.

I still have been comparing DT's and other All-terrain tires too. but in a 17" size, going on a 9"wheel
Really wanted a 33x12.5x7 ( Dt's are only available in 285/70/17 ) , any other suggestions ??? - I looked at DickCepek F-C II, BFg-KM2's and a few others. all are priced about the same in that size. 85% on/15% off road mostly just sand and snow for off-road

Interesting you should mention that. Cuz the one negative about the DT's is their thinner sidewalls...generally not good for crawling rocks (not the same as driving on trails with rocks, btw).

Not sure about the MT's.

Unless you're gonna rock crawl, though, the DT's still might be the way to go, just because of all the snow driving you'll get into.

Go with the Duratracs. They ride great, look great, and save on weight compared to other tires. But I am biased....

Hmm. A tire conundrum.
To be honest, I'm not going to be doing any serious rock crawling very soon, if I ever even get into serious stuff. My jk is a month old and I would be pissed if I did some damage or got major scratches on body panels while it's still so new. Maybe one day I won't care as much, but the crush make me smile so much everytime I see it that i couldn't imagine hurting it so early on in it's life

In that case then it's a no-brainer, IMHO. Because of the snow/mud/rain capabilities, light weight, cost, looks and tread life, I'd go DT's, hands down.

Once I wear mine out, I'll be putting another set on my Jeep.

Even if I have to wait two months while they're on backorder, like I did the first time.

I agree. I'm almost 100% on the DT bandwagon now. I've been reading more and more good things on them tonight. Doing more research to make sure I make the right choice and it seems I can't go wrong with them.

I am at Fort Carson. The drives from Colorado Springs west thru the mountains to Cripple Creek, Victor, and points beyond are beautiful.
You can literally drive endless miles on backroads.

They do call it the "Rockies" for a reason. Lots of pokey rocks unless you stay on the lame plowed roads.

That sounds amazing. I CANNOT wait to get out there. Ever since I went skiing out there when I was 5 I knew I wanted to live out there and it's finally about to happen. These next couple months are going to be long, but it'll be worth it tho

Well the sidewalls aren't as puncture prone as some would have you believe. Lots of Jeeps here in Colorado and the Duratracs are extremely popular with the off road crowd.
