I have a 2015 Unlimited Sahara and from what I've been reading I think I can get away with both tires on the stock wheels without a lift (eventually will be lifted) as long as I have 1.5 spacers. And not goin off-road until lift is installed. That bein said, any thoughts on these tires?
Cooper makes quality tires. @Pressurized has the S/T Maxx's, and can give you some real feedback on how they are (I believe his are similar in size too).
The Duratracs have a bit of a rep about having weak/puncture-prone side walls.
I have the st Maxx's in 35x12.50 17 love them. Quiet ride, very smooth on the hwy. side wall may be just a touch stiff but that's why I wanted them anyway was the tough sidewalls.
Had mine on for about 6000 miles so far and they are wearing very nice and even.
The 295/70-18 is going to be too tall to run without a lift.
I know those 2 sizes seem close, but they are quite different. Even the 295/65-18 is a true 33" tire which might rub and is bigger than the 33's we usually put on stock height Jeeps. The 295/70-18 is really a 35" tire measuring at 34.3". That would need a real 2.5" lift and appropriate bump stops.
You can run the 295/65-18's but consider a quality budget boost to do it right.
It is oft considered and discussed Tires and then Lift but in reality should be in reverse OR at the same time.
It also usually gets mentioned "Won't off-road until..." but even on-road.
You have no way of knowing what situation may occur. Too much risk.
Oh Boy.... Lifts as you might imagine are rarely discussed (jk) for road manners and off-road capability many like the AEV 2.5
OME offers a great riding quality Lift.
Then the list grows from there - You may want to take a look at the Lift Thread
If I was putting a 2.5 on tomorrow based on my usage it would be an AEV or OME.
I put a set of ST Maxx 295/70 17 (which is about 33.4") on without a lift on stock wheels. I had rubbing at full steering lock till I added 1.25" spacers. Height was fine while staying on roads. I then added RK 1.5" springs and all is perfect, no rubbing anywhere. I was going for the lower expedition look, but now I'm itching for more lift and 35's! Must Resist!!
Besides the lift don't forget the bigger the tire the more it weighs. If you have the 3.21 gears you probably will notice a difference in acceleration, speedometer, worse MPG, and shifting points. I noticed a difference when I went to bought my BFG KO2's. I bought a Superchips Flashcal to adjust for the new tire size. Now it goes drives close to stock. Hope this helps.
i run 275/65R18's with no lift, going wider will as you stated require spacers.
the Duratrac's are great in wet and snowy conditions and are quiet at highway speeds.
