Earliest Order Date & Doors questions/thoughts

1. What's traditionally been the earliest order date for the new model year? I've never been in the market this early on a model year waiting to order. Is it usually June (mid/late?) for August Delivery? Does it vary by dealer? I guess it can vary by year, but if you don't mind posting experiences form years past that would be great.

2. I wonder why Jeep doesn't offer a dual doors option. I would consider it, I guess it would be expensive, but dual top group adds almost 2k. Doors wouldn't be much more. Would others consider getting that option? Maybe the demand doesn't exist. Until then, I'll go half doors, even though fulls would be nice in February.

Found the answer to #1. I guess I didn't do a good enough job searching or got lazy at that hour

Last year there was a post from a dealer on here on 6/16 saying the 2011 was orderable. Allpar.com had a post on 6/9 saying the same. That's only about 4 weeks away!!!!

They do. It's just not on the website or listed as an official "package," but you can definitely order both sets of doors. The easiest thing would probably be to order the Jeep with full doors and then order the halfs extra.

But I would never bother doing any of that with the dealer. I'd get fulls from the dealer and then order these or these aftermarket. If you must have "Mopar," then you can do those here.

Did you ever find an answer for what the delivery date would be? Never owned a jeep before, but I was recently bitten by the bug... If I place an order in June, when will delivery most likely be? Early August? Late August? September?

Thanks, (don't think this has been specifically answered, I haven't found it yet.)

Same dealer posted they got their first Rubi on 9/2 last year. So I'd guess end Aug/ early sept is likely.

@ndrugby: So you're basing these estimates on last year? Or did you find something for the 2012's? I hope it is early June. I am wanting a new Rubi bad, but want to wait for the Pentastar engine. The sooner I can write the deposit check and order it, the better!!

Based on last year and the fact that they've stopped taking orders for 11 I believe (or so it seems). Early June would be holding a spot until all features are announced. That's my understanding of how it worked last year.

Great!! I am going to get in touch with a salesman that I spoke with a few weeks ago and see what he has to say. I think the down side of early ordering is that there will be no incentives, but the up side is we will get exactly what we want. I know I won't be able to wait, so I am going to pull the trigger as soon as I can!!

I'm going to hit up 4 or 5 dealerships in the next 1-2 weeks. They'll be competing for my valuable business . and last year's dealer is not one. if I learn anything I'll post it on the forums and I'll PM you parkfan.

The other thing is there are salesmen on here that seem to "get it". They're interacting with the community and helping us while learning about their customers. Smart. They seem to share info openly. I'll be watching to see if one of them posts about orders opening.

There is nothing on VOIM(vehicle ordering & inventory manager) yet. This month they take final orders for July delivery. I still think it's going to be end of June before you can order a 2012 and you will see it end of August or beginning of September.

I put a call into the inventory manager for the midwest region, so hopefully he will call me back tomorrow or Wednesday. He is a pretty busy guy so I always tell him no rush just when he gets a chance.

No problem, and when I said chrysler shut off orders for 2011 this month I should have said 5/9/11

I thought I read, somewhere on this forum, that half doors would no longer
be available on the 2012. Anyone have info one way or the other?

Uh oh. I hope not. That would be a mistake in my opinion. Even so, if they don't change the body/door, then the 2011 doors will work and those can be purchased through MOPAR.

Haven't heard anything yet, good question though! Half doors are only available on the sports for 2011. Gives me another question to ask!

Spoke to my dealer today and he basically said the same thing; 2011 orders have stopped and they expect 2012 to begin in June or July, but that could change. He also seemed to be uncertain that the new engine would be in the 2012s.

No half doors would not be groovy in my world. All these changes must be driving the aftermarket guys nuts. I found out last month that the 09 hard top will not fit the 2011. And if they change the dimensions on the 2012 to fit a new engine, I wonder if the 2011 tops will fit them?

Actually, the 1/2 doors are available on Rubicon for 2011 also. There are 12 of them on lots now that I know of. None in Yellow though. There's an awesome build in Green. But it's in Hawaii. I wonder what that would cost to get back to the mainland

That makes sense. No worries. And my number was on 2-doors, half doors with manual transmission.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop ndrugby!! Today I received a response to an e-mail I sent to one of the salesman that I'm working with. He said that they can take orders in July (no specific date). He then said that the Pentastar in the 2012 Wrangler is just a "rumor" at this point. He also said that Chrysler is having problems keeping up with demand for the Pentastar for the vehicles that already have it, so it may not be available in the 2012 Wrangler. He closed with how I would be missing a whole summer of driving if I waited. (I understand that he is a salesman and wants to make the deal now and not wait until August/September). I figure it like this, if the Pentastar is available, then I'm going to wait. If not, I'll be closer to the end of the model year and there will probably be some incentives to move the 2011's to make room for the 2012's. Seems like a win-win to me at this point. Next Tuesday I will be out and about (I'm 240 miles from any decent dealerships) and I will stop in at a few and see what I can find out. I'll keep you posted.

To Pat@FieldsJeep, where are you located at, Illinois? I have a sister that lives in Chicago. How about a group buy on a few 2012 Wranglers? I could fly out and pick it up!! Just sayin'.... (Being sort of "tongue in cheek" here, but if you can help us out it may be worth our while).

pakrfan19 (got it right this time) - the CEO announced the pentastar would be in the 2012 Wrangler, or so I read that. That seems like pretty good info. But then again things can change. You have to imagine they are trying to move to one engine to get economies of scale as quickly as possible.

But I'm in the same boat as you. Wait to find out what's available, and if nothing really interesting, get a 2011 at a great end of MY deal. Still tons of Wranglers on lots. TONS!

I am considering purchasing a new Wrangler Unlimited (probably the Sport with a hardtop and auto tranny) and am currently researching them. How would you guys rate the current V6 engine. My research has me believing it has adequate power and doesn't get great gas milage. Is the new Pentastar V6 worth waiting for? I'm basically asking would you suggest waiting and buying a 2012 or go for a good deal on a 2011?

Wandell - I started with the same question you did and came to the conclusion that I'm going to wait for now (partly because I can't find the exact one I want any way). Do I think it wil be a huge improvement? No. But greater HP and better gas mileage (even if only 10%) would be worth the wait in my mind.

I bet you can find a ton of JKU sport hard tops with auto trannys. Do some searching on dealers near you and see how many they have. This will give you a god sense of whether what you want may still be around in one or two months.

Wandell: I can only speak for myself, but here goes. I drove a 2009 manual Rubi back in 2009 and a couple of weeks ago I drove a 2011 automatic Rubi. I felt both were slightly underpowered (don't hate JMO). I feel at this point, keeping in mind that we will be able to order a 2012 in about a month or two, I will wait. The Pentastar has gotten a lot of really good press. I think the horsepower and torque bump will be a plus in this particular vehicle. An added bonus will be a bit better fuel economy. As I said earlier, if the Pentastar for some reason doesn't show up in the 2012's, then I go out and get a killer deal on a 2011 closer to the end of the model year!!

(I understand that they may have changed things between 2009 and now with the manual transmission. I am simply stating my experience).

I did some searching using Jeep's website. I found a huge dealership in north Ga and requested a price on one with a few more options than I wanted. They responded with a price about 4 grand off sticker price. They had several Wranglers listed on their website listed at 3000 and 3500 off sticker price. And at this time there are no sales incentives on Wrangler Unlimiteds, only a special lease deal.

I'm coming to the same conclusion... Unfortunately, I can't find many Rubi's in a manual, and the ones I do find, none have all the options I want (Connect group, dual tops, tow group, and hardest to find... 730N). If I could find a 2011 with all those for a decent price, I'd probably get a 2011. Neither myself, nor the dealer I'm working with, can find a manual Rubi with a 730N. Which, if that's the case, I'd much rather wait for the 2012 and not only get the options I want, but the new engine as well.

Sorry, should have specified... I'm looking for an Unlimited.

Thanks for looking though! My jaw almost dropped until I couldn't figure out why the stickers were less than what I had built out on jeep.com...
