Early Planning Stages for a 2012 Rubicon JK Unlimited

Although I haven't been on here in years, I'm not totally new to the Jeep world. I have a 97 TJ that I bought new, which has a 4.5 RE LA lift, 33's (but regeared to handle 35's), a Dana 60 rear, etc. Unfortunately, when my son was born about 6 years ago, my wife convinced me that I needed to get a more practical 4 door car (I bought a CTS-V and kept the Jeep). Three years later, and I had a nother little one. So, with 2 young kids, my TJ has sat virtually unused for about 6 years. I now plan to get rid of the TJ and buy a new JK Unlimited, which will be my daily driver. With 4 doors and the new Pentastar, I'm psyched about the prospect of driving a Jeep again. Having bored you at this point, here is my question.

I think I want to put ont eh metalcloak tube fenders immediately, buy new wheels, regear, and run 35's right out of the box. I'm hoping that this approach will give me a good bit of capability without sending me too far down the ever cascasding need to upgrade that typically occurs when one starts down this path. Any suggestions, thoughts, etc.? I'm curious what other things I should really consider doing up front or any problems with this course of action. Granted, I understand that the 2012 has not yet been released, but I'm assuing it's basically going to be the same as the 2011 (with the exception of the enginve, transmission and a few other items).

Thanks in advance for all your sage advice. . .

Welcome. There is quite a bit of information available in here regards the 2012. I would recommend you set aside some time and read through some of the threads in advance. There is also no need to rush to do upgrades. Take you time and think things through.

if you use 2012 in the search it will give you a listing of current information.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the welcome and the tip; however, I've pretty much been lurking around for months and actually joined about 8 or 9 years ago. I just couldn't recall my password and had changed jobs (and e-mail addresses since then).

At this point, I've basically read about everything on this site and every other that I can regarding the 2012's. In fact, I'm crazy enought that I've already reached out to some of the manufacturers to see if they've begun development of any sort of forced induction solutions for the Pentastar (you can never have too much power).

I'm just curious what others would consider doing if they were in my position. I'm somewhat stubborn and may or may not take the advice of others, but I'm not totally closed minded. Plus, I find that oftenttimes others have heard of or stumbled accross manufactuers that make some really great stuff that I would have otherwise never known anything about.
