Economy must be getting better here

I took off from work a little early and drove through traffic to get to the dealer where I bought my Jeep. The sale was hassle free, and actually quite an enjoyable experience, but service is a whole other story.

I used to work as a dealer technician years ago, and know how the game works, but in the dealerships I worked at, we bent over backwards for the customer. I am not asking them to bend over backwards. Let me know what you think?

The plastic around my windshield is warping. I have had my JK for approximately 2 months barely over 1k on it. The plastic trim on the inside of window is warping, and it is noticeable. I wanted to go to the dealer where I bought the Jeep. All I was asking was to look at it, and do what they had to do to get it warranted. I figured look at the color code and order the parts. The service writer said they have to take pictures of it, and send it in for an approval. OK whatever, just do it. They said that it was almost closing, and that they couldn't do that, and I would have to make an appointment.

Granted I didn't make an appointment, but I did give them over 2 hours to take pictures, and do a color code. I wasn't in any hurry. He told me that they couldn't do it, and I would have to make an appointment to get the pictures taken then I would have to make another appointment to get it installed if approved.

I told him that I live a ways away, and it is tough for me to make an appointment much less 2. He said there was nothing he could do. He didn't offer any alternatives. Maybe times have changed since I have been in the field, but we would have been asked to work late for a walk in customer especially if it was something that took less than a 1/2.

I will say this I passed 3 Jeep dealers to get to this one, and since I have to make 2 appointments I will not be going back to this dealer. I find it odd that the sales people were easier and nicer to deal with than the service department especially when the service department is the one that makes the bulk of the money for the dealer.

Am I being over sensitive, or when you pay 20K for a truck do you expect a little better service?

I will probably find a dealer closer to my home. If they all give me fits at least I can make appointments to the closest dealer, and throw loyalty out the door.

Considering you bought your Jeep there, I would expect much better service. You could speak with the service manager and tell him you're disappointed with the way you were treated. If they don't improve, take your business elsewhere.

Yah, I totally agree! I would be ticked off as well. I too would expect much better service, especially from the place of purchase!

I've been dealing with dealer X for years, 2 Rams and a problematic Neon. I bought my Jeep from dealer Y. I had to take the Jeep in for a warranty problem, I went to X. When I checked in, the service rep asked me "where I had been and why I didn't buy from them. I told him "they didn't have what i wanted on the lot". After that, he was cool. Service department gets paid one way or the other.

The point is, find a dealer you can work with.

So I went to the Dealer down the street. I drove into the service drive the writer came out and looked at it. He said "Yep, it's warped, I will order one, and call you when it comes in." I was like that's it? He said yep. So it was all of 1 and a half minutes and I was on my way. Woot to Tempe Dodge/Jeep!

I'd give a call back to the service manager at the other dealership and file a complaint, and then throw in a few online complaints as well if you were unhappy with their service.

You'd probably be doing other guys here a service if you named that bad dealer.

Must be common if you have two dealers, lol. The dealer I bought mine from are nothing more then crooks IMO. But the dealer down the road bends over backwards to give excellent service. They get all my work now. I had a service issue and they quoted me a price and when I went to pick it up they said they finished it in better time then they expected and charged my $25.00 less then the quoted price. I am even letting them do my new coil springs. Getting stiffer front coils because of the new bumper and winch. They only charging $53 for each spring for the front and $80 labor to put both in.

Not sure why some dealers are crooks while others seem to be the opposite. Chrysler needs to weed out the bad seeds IMO.

The dealer that gave me bad service was AirPark Dodge/Jeep in Scottsdale AZ. Now don't get me wrong I bought my Jeep there because they gave me a sweet deal, and the sales guys were spot on. Except for the warranty hard sell,(of which I bought no extended waranty), I was happy with the whole process. It was quick, and they gave me everything I wanted and I got it for 2700 under sticker (plus got the 373:1 gear ratio manual trans), but the service dept. was a completely different matter.

Now the new dealer I went to down the street that gave great service. I originally was going to buy my Jeep there, but they wouldn't give me the deal I was looking for. They weren't horrible just wouldn't go down low enough. Plus they didn't have any manual trans with 373:1 ratio.

The Dealer with good service was Tempe Dodge/Jeep in Tempe AZ

I had a similar experience when I lived in Austin: I Bought a current-year used Honda & the vinyl started to separate from around both the driver and passenger arm rests. The dealer that I bought it from didn't even want to look at it, so I drove it to the dealer up the street. They took care of it with no trouble whatsoever.

Guess which shop I used from then on?
