Thumbs down Electric motor noise?

O Sitting in my new JK, once in a while I would hear the sound of an electric motor coming from the center dash. It would last 1 to 2 seconds. It sounds like an actuator motor. The key was off and as far as I know nothing was on. Can anybody explain this for me? Just wondering.

No worries. There is an actuator that closes a door in the ducting for your vents, when you turn it off after a period of time the door closes.

Thanks, So I'm guessing that when stopped the vents open so fresh air can enter the cab? Or, as you said, they close, so no contaminants (dust) can enter the cabin

In mine sometimes when I go to get in, I open the door and I can hear it open. But when I park and sit for a while I can hear it close.

Aha, I suppose the reason is so contaminants {dust) cannot enter the cab.

Yup...totally normal. Any time I'm working on my Jeep with the door open I hear it.

I have seen the vent that the motor is closing. If you are bored one day just pop out the glove box. Its the big vent on the right side, you'll see it open it close. It freaked me out when I was doing the heater hose "mod" for the rattling in the dash.

On the left side behind the glove box there's a "wheel" that I believe is the temp control valve. It'll move occasionally also.

I discovered that one while installing my CB.

The sound your actually hearing is the little hamster starting to run on the wheel. Wait a minute, if you've got a 2012 then you don't have to worry about that anymore.

Sit in your Jeep some afternoon with the key turned to acc and listen to the radio, that thing opens and closes a lot. I did this the other day during a lunch break, I was amazed at how often it did it.
