Electronic Throttle Control Light

I have a 2011 Wrangler Unlimited with an automatic transmission. It has about 1000 miles on it. Tonight I went to take it for a drive and the Check Engine light and the Electronic Throttle Control light came on at the same time about a half mile down the road. When I turn the engine off and then back on again, the Check engine light stays on. And as soon as I start driving, the Electronic Throttle light comes back on. Any thoughts?

If you mean the "RED" lightning symbol (ETC) item #30 on the dash icons-

If it goes on/off occasionaly-it's OK, but if it stays on after ign is on-----especially if your check engine light is ON--Like 2010WM said--DEALER, if you don't---

Your engine is going into "limp mode"-when you least expectit !!

The ETC module is simple to replace, but still under warranty and with other problems--DEALER TIME !!

Good luck

The ETC light stayed off on my way to work today. Stopped and filled up as the engine warning light is still on. Thinking maybe the gas cap got loose. Will drive it a bit more to see if the engine warning light goes off. But if the ETC light comes back on and the engine warning light stays on, it's back to the dealer.

That ETC module is what the computer tells, to feed engine fuel/injectors (throttle), how fast YOU wanna go-withoutit-your in deep CaCa--

The engine warning light stayed on all the way home from work, but when I stopped and restarted the engine, the warning light went out. So no warning lights anymore. Could've been a loose gas cap, could've been bad fuel. But so far, so good.

I'm pretty sure there is a separate loose gas cap warning light or indicator message.

Nope. Just the check engine light. I invested in a code reader when my son's first truck started having issues. Really paid off with my wife's car. An $11 dealer only part, that took me 4 hours to replace, justified the $160 cost of the reader.

Without the code reader, you have 2 choices. Dealer. Or auto shop that gives "free readings". And want to sell you the most expensive fix.

YMMV...

If i coast down hill (in gear) for a few miles my warning lights come on and she runs quite rough. Once i stop and re-start the engine all`s fine. I do the key dance and she reads P2173.

Actually there is a GASCAP error message when it is the gas cap or EVAP error. I had it. My EVAP wire came loose. It flashes where it says HOTOIL. It's not a symbol but actually says GASCAP

It looks like my Electronic Throttle Control problem is finally fixed. The ETC light and check engine light continued to come on almost daily for no apparent reason. Took it to the dealer for its 3000 oil change and they cleared the codes and did a software update. The light stayed off on my way home, but came back on again that night. I notified the dealer and brought it back the next week. During the week the light continued to come on at various times. Yesterday they replaced the throttle control assembly and that seemed to solve the problem. No issues yesterday or today. And of course, all under warranty, so no charge.

Occasionally my ETC light and the check engine light has come on after restarting the JK. Then I shut down and start from scratch. The ETC light goes off but the check engine light stayed on. After about four restarts, that light goes out too. After a couple of times I realized that the orginal ETC light only came on if I had been listening to the radio/cd player with the ignition in the acc position for some time, and had not completely shut off ignition before restarting. Has not recurred since I have completely shut off before restarting.

My ETC light and check engine light came on a week ago when starting up the engine.. after listening to the radio in acc position for a while also. I didn't shut off the engine before starting it up. My jeep reads code P2181 - cooling system performance as well. Any advice?? 2008 Jeep Wrangler

What is the "throttle control assembly"? I had this problem just after cleaning my throttle body.

Angry 2008 Jeep Wrangler Issues

I purchased a 2008 Wrangler end of May with in a few weeks the throttle control light and engine light both came on. Took it in the shop they reset everything sent me on my way. Lasted approximately 4 days and again the lights came on, took it back to the shop, where they flushed something and updated my entire computer system. Well approximately 3 days later the lights have come back on. Only thing I am noticing is the Throttle light will go off upon restart of the vehicle but the engine light will remain on, also when the throttle control light first comes on my temperature gauge stops functioning. Fighting with dealership now, all they apparently want to do is reset my alerts ... any suggestions on what has fixed this issue??
