explaining tread lightly to a dealer

good morning and happy monday

I hope someone can help me.

I went to a dealership yesterday and put an order in for a cosmos blue 2012 sport s 2 door. Total MSRP is 30,460 dealer offer is 29,540. They were not familiar with tread lightly at all. I have not signed anything or even submitted a credit app yet..I only put a deposit down, on a credit card of course.

After pondering overnight, I feel I need to go back, or actually email this morning as that is when the jeep will be ordered.

Anyway, I figured out the invoice price should be 28,240 without 1% discount, with its around 27.957,60. Is there a link or some information I could send to them explaining that they have to give the discount? And am I correct to assume its 1% off INVOICE not 1% off MSRP? And is there a "nice" way to do this in e-mail?

thanks for your help
Hannah

They do not have to participate in that program. If you do not have the numbers you want worked out, then you should not have a deposit down.

Make sure you are a member first with your paperwork and then just tell them it is part of the affiliate rewards program. They should know what that is.

Yeah built the jeep you want on edmunds.com or a site like that to get theinvoice price if you dont know. And yes just tell the dealer you have an AR control number for the affiliate pricing. They should know what that is.

Do what everyone said to do, but they still don't have to participate if they don't want to.

Once you get the membership, there is a Chrysler number they can call to get the paperwork details. My dealer had to do that, and it took a little while for them to figure it out but eventually they did.

Maybe Pat could start a consulting business where Chrysler pays him to travel around the country and teach the dealerships how to provide proper customer service and fair deals where the customer and dealer both can be happy.

Arggggh! Don't talk to them about Tread Lightly! That's only how you will qualify for the Chrysler Affiliate Rewards program.

https://www.chrysleraffiliates.com/l...tPricingLayout

Ask if they participate in the Affiliate Rewards program from Chrysler. It's in none of their business how you qualify.

If they participate, and it's the rare dealer who doesn't, then you will give them your Chrysler 'control number' and your Tread Lightly membership letter when you close the deal. Period.

From the way Pat explained it....I can't see any reason why a dealer would NOT participate...(unless that is the only Jeep dealer in 300 mile radius).

They would be stupid not to participate. They give you 1%, they get back 2% from Chrysler, get to keep their holdback, and don't even have to work for it.

I just call 5 dealers, tell them exactly what I want, and make it clear that if they'll give me 1% below invoice they have a deal, 100%.

4 Jeeps bought that way, and someone ALWAYS bites.

No reason to feel silly! That's why my "Argggh." Most everybody is confusing a mythical "Tread Lightly discount" with the Affiliate Rewards program..... No need to confuse the dealers further. Most salesmen already know very little about the vehicles they are hustling, none-the-less about Tread Lightly and what it may qualify you for!

I did that, too ... Except used 2% below. Then, at closing, I pulled out my affiliate rewards for another 1% off.

Point being, you will always get a better deal using the affiliate program, IMO.

I also Joined TL before I even started Negotiating with the Dealer. You can sign up online and they Priority Mail every Friday. You CAN NOT get your number via phone or online... it will come in your package where you can then access your control #.. Its easy.. Do the 3 year membership for $60 bucks.. Guarantees you AT LEAST 1% below.. I did tell my dealer I was a TL member but negotiated further below 1%.. Remember that is the MAXIMUM YOU SHOULD PAY... MAXIMUM... don't be fooled. I ordered my Jeep last Tuesday 9/20/11 Got the VON and the build sheet right away.. And today I received the VIN.... Dealer never even asked me for my TL #...... NOW THE WAIT BEGINS....

This is the same thing I did.. just Via Email.. you can go on Cars.com build the jeep and send an email to dealers in your area.. with all the info you need .. what you wanna pay etc... your phone will be ringing instantly.. then you just send the quotes back and forth to each.. so they compete.. and your done.. Easy.

I called 3 dealers before talking to INTERNET sales manager at 4 dealer, he had knowledge of Tread-Lightly program and had knowledge of new 2012. I drove the extra distance to deal with people who know Jeeps and it paid off. On the invoice from Chrysler Group you have the PP price, this is the most the dealer can charge you when using Tread-Lightly.

In my case the sticker price was $40,850, my PP price was $37,850. I first ordered a GC Overland 4x4, but changed my mind when I saw a 2012 JKU Rubicon with body color top and fenders at another dealers INTERNET site. My salesman said no problem, he would get it for me by noon. That is why it good to deal with people who know jeeps and Tread-Lightly program.

Hannah - It sounds like you will be well armed to go in and get a good deal.

You might find it easier to deal with the Internet sales manager at each dealer.
