Extended Warranty

So I just cancelled my 7year/76Kmiles bumper to bumper warranty from the dealer via FIDELITY. It ran 5K and change.

Background: Just purcahsed my jeep 2013/unlimited last week. Has 700miles on it. I plan on keeping this for a long time. I cancelled the warranty because I reazlied I paid way too much

Can anyone recommend a good warranty provider?

Most are scams that will deny coverage to even the most basic of vehicles with no modifications. Google about these warranty scams, its pretty sad how many people get taken with them. It's good you cancelled Fidelity's, they are one of the top scammers.

Chrysler offers its own extended warranty. That's the only one I'd trust. You can get it through your dealer and it doesn't cost much more than a 3rd party option.

I have the Chrysler extended and its been good and worth it so far. It's like 2500 extra on top of sticker but I've already used it and have modded my jeep and had no problem. Very recommended if you wheel with your jeep!

Congrats! Who covers the warranty? If it's Fidelity, RUN! I did some research, they have a horrible track record.

This is one of the most discussed topics right after tire size. Save searching and go here. Chrysler extended warranty, Factory backed extended warranties for Dodge, Jeep and Chrysler vehicles get a quote, wait a few days (maybe not even that much) and they will send a promo code for even more off. And it is Chrysler backed.

Any time somebody offers you a lifetime warranty on any consumable, especially if the warranty is applicable to the, complete package, "Everything". Then you had better read all of the fine print, check them out on BBB and the Attorney Generals office, because it is just to good to be true!!!!!!!!!!

Lifetime warranty on wear item's, tires, brake pads, belts, hoses, wiper blades, all fluids, steering linkage and you said everything so that would also include ABUSE.

No way man!!!!!!!

Chryslers extended warranty is worth exactly 2 sheets of coarse single ply toilet paper.

Ask anyone who's tried to make a claim for anything. Even a factory defect.
They'll just lie and say it's your fault no matter what it is.

I had to lawyer up to get the $1,200 they charged me when my throwout bearing grenaded and puked it's little roud guts all over the inside of my bell housing.

Yes, bumper to bumper warranty. Yes, known defect. Yes, clutch plate still 90% or better.

Denied!

Same story with the rear driveline failure.
Had to fight tooth and nail for weeks to get paid back the $800 I spent to fix it.

Still fighting to get my 5 day rental car expense paid back.

Bumper to bumper warranty my ass. Save your money.

Wow. That does not sound good. Maybe I will just put a away a couple thousand, and have that as a warranty savings account.

Check out these guys. I purchased an extended warranty through my credit union on the Honda Odyssey in 05... 7 years 100k was less than 2k (back in 05). They replaced the water pump, fuel pump, two drive axles, transmission service (to determine why there was a front end shimmy while accelerating, sliding door motors, DVD system, right front lower arm assy and a few other things, after the 3/36 ran out... no hassle. They never even called me... negotiated straight to the dealer... every dealer I used said "who are these guys, they are easy to use" one even said "more friendly than our own Honda EW people". No I don't work for them but I will gladly endorse them.

Haven't had a problem with the Chrysler warranty so far (two items repaired). The Jeep dealer just wants a fortune to handle routine maintenance so I skip them. I have an 08 JKU with a lifetime warranty and 70k... I have it pretty much stock except for tires and cosmetics.

I don't think he meant consumables... no warranty does that except the puny "maintenance packages" they try to add to the vehicles now. If the dealership told him consumables he should report them. I like looks of the CarMax warranty... they list everything NOT covered. If you don't see it... its covered.

Normal warranty covers defective parts and workmanship. This is the standard of the Industry!
To say that a extended warranty covers everything, well EVERYTHING is a very broad term!

If you do buy the Chrysler extended warranty, be aware that most of these warranties are marked up roughly 100% from cost. So if the dealership is offering it for $3,000 it probably costs them about $1,500. You should be able to negotiate a significant discount.

X1000! Extended warranties are a ripoff and they try to not pay on everything. It's just another revenue stream for the dealership. Don't get suckered into buying this unless you have money to waste. I was offered an ex-warr with a refund if I didn't use it and I said NO. I've had friends go through with this crap already. Whether it's from Chrysler or Walmart it's a waste of money. Can buy a lot of parts for $2000+.

You can get it on the jeep.com site directly from Chyrsler. The others are third parties and they may or may not be more. It's now the Mopar Protection Plan. They even give you 1 year to pay with no interest.

Big waste of money. Just remember Insurance Companies are not in it to lose money.
You are better off to take the money and put it in a savings account. Then it's there if you need the money for a repair, if not then it's available to buy another toy.

I know a guy who bought the paint sealant (or whatever it is), rustproofing, fabric protection and the extended warranty. Think he paid like $4k extra for this stuff. I didn't want to make fun of him as he's a good guy but I told him I wouldn't have bought that stuff and didn't when I bought mine.

Some people want to be "Safe" but I just have heard horror stories about the extended warranties and the company not wanting to pay for anything. At the end of the day, it's your money. You can buy whatever you want. I choose not to.

Well I just had to replace the long block in my 2008 JK X 3.8L and it was almost $6000. I was outside the 3 yr 36k mile warranty and had to go to chrysler as I have all chrysler vehicles at the moment and didn't feel I should be paying anything on a car with 54k miles on it I bought from their "authorized" dealer 2 1/2 years ago! they split the repair 75% / 25%. The original owner had lifetime but it's non transferrable. The dealer gave me what I paid for the jeep 2 1/2 years ago, and I paid $250 over dealer invoice, and the $3500 lifetime extensive was dropped to $2000. Yes my '08 had a brand new motor with 0 miles on it, but it also needed 4 tires, a clutch, and brakes all around so I feel good about the deal.

I have the fabric protection plan cause I have little ones that put gum and everything else in seats and I made appointment and they took it right out. Had to replace front stabilizer bar and crhysler is replacing it as well. All a matter of opinion and circumstance. I've owned it less then a month and play hard with it(4000miles) already. And the part bent by abuse and they replaced it. So if u think u need it u probably do.

Just curious. Did you go through the dealer or the fabric protector company to file a claim?

First week I had my Wrangler I spilled some Coca Cola on the seat... wiped right off. This is on an untreated drivers seat. Not sure what extra protection you need.

How do the dealers respond if you've done any modifications (lift, tires, etc.)?

Is that an instant denial of warranty or do they overlook those things?

Called the dealer and they set it up I just dropped it off. Try gum with ground up cookie and baby formula. Not a pretty mess but they got it right out.

In reference to Chrysler's extended warranty...

After looking at a sample contract, I decided not to get one with the purchase of the vehicle. I am going to wait until after having it for a few months to gauge if I need it or not.

Read the fine print, look at some sample contracts and see if it fits you. I am all about having and not needing vs needing but to me, the contract is a money pit for Chrysler.

This has already been said, but if you shop around you can cut the warranty cost in half plus you have until the 3 years / 36,000 miles to buy it.

The dealer will make it sound that by waiting the prices goes way up. It does go up a little, but even then, after shopping around I was able to pick up the extended warranty at 40% below what the dealer offered it to me when I bought my Jeep.

I cancelled my extended warranty, after realising there are no good service depts. in my area to do work. I brought the jeep in for front end right wheel wobble after hitting pothole. Prior to visit, I rotated tires, but still same wobble at all speeds. Service dept., after alignment and balancing, inspecting all suspension components while on jeep, insisted it was tires, and nothing wrong with anything else. I had the jeep in twice to them for the problem. The service dept. isn't dishonest; they just believe this is the way the jeep drives with my tires. I will have to take it to Elias 4X4 or T.J. & sons and pay for the fix myself. Warranties are only as good as the dealership service depts. ability to fix your jeep .
