Extended Warranty - Lifetime?

Ok. When I bought my 2015 JKU this past week, the dealership was pushing their warranty. I didn't take it. I have the option to get it before the 3/36 is up. But I did ask them about the Mopar Warranty. The finance guy didn't know anything about it. So, I want on to Jeep's site and started reading about it. They have various plans. Then I saw they had a Lifetime Warranty plan backed by Mopar. I was like.. Hmm.. What got me is it was the same price as the dealership's extended warranty which wasn't Lifetime.

Would you purchase a Lifetime Warranty for $3800? Their motto is "If it's mechanical, it's covered." Includes Alternator, AC Compressor, water pump, etc.

What do you guys think?

We plan on keeping this Jeep for as long as we have owned our first Jeep. 20 years and it just keeps going.. :D GO YJ's!!!!!

Not for $ 3,800. I have a Lifetime on my 2014.

You can get a big discount on a Mopar Lifetime Warranty from a guy that was on this forum for a while. ClayR but I think he is now blocked for selling Mopar warranties. PM me and I will send you his phone number.

I have the Maximum Care Lifetime bumper-to-bumper with a $100 ded. When I bought it from forum member Noble back in 2013 it was around $1,950. It is the same warranty that your dealer is trying to sell you for $3,800. Since we plan on keeping our Jeep at least 10 years I figured my cost on the warranty comes out to less than 55-cents per day.

I will PM you his contact info.

I have the added care plus, and according to the finance guy I did the paper work with at the dealer, it covers 'everything on the willy's'.

I'm still a little skeptical, but from the research I've done it should cover anything I ever have gone with the willy's

The added care doesn't cover things like heated seats and navigation issues, none of which are on my willy's...

Does anyone have any further knowledge of the added care plus vs. max care?

Man, sounds like the finance guy is going to overwhelm me with plans, options, etc. Can any and all of these options be purchased later so I can digest options? I understand the max care can be obtained via an alternate vendor but what about everything else...whatever everything else will be?

Bought my lifetime maximum care warranty from Chrislerwarranties.com about a year after I bought my jeep...right at the 30,000 mile mark. It cost me $2400 if I recall correctly.

In the 2 yrs and 90,000 miles since I bought it...it has covered right at about $7,000 worth of misc repairs.

It has NOT covered my catalytic converters because they say that they are "wear items".

It has not covered the leather of my drivers seat cracking (badly) 18 months after I bought it.

It HAS replaced my 430RHB....twice. Shocks, O2 Sensor, AC compressor (twice...with full system service), alternator, fuel pump, fuel tank, both rear brake calipers (twice), several rental vehicles, etc...etc....

No hassle. no questions asked.

The availability of this warranty is the foremost selling point for any future vehicle for me and my wife.

If you have the money and can afford it...its a hell of a lot smarter than spending it on any of a long list of other accessories.

I love my lifetime warranty.

V.

just curious, how many $100 deductibles did all that amount to ?

When I bought my 2012 Jeep JKUS new we bought the lifetime warrantee and I think we paid 1800. My jeep just went out of warrantee and I found out my cv joint boots were frozen (something like that) and my 100 deductible paid for the replacement. I plan on handing this jeep down to my son in 15 years so I figure it's worth it.

I have the maxx care and paid $2400 wich included four years of tire road hazzard. Which has paid for itself already. Had radiator replaced all 5 tmps sensors replaced throw out bearing and out of pocket was $100 for all the items
They replaced your throw out bearing under the Mopar Maximum Care Vehicle Protection Plan? That's interesting because the contract states all clutch items are not covered.

What Mopar means by "Lifetime" is also still up for debate.

Lifetime: the duration of a thing's existence or usefulness.
The contract says it doesn't cover failure due to "normal wear." No part is going to last forever. If they deem a failure is the result of a component surpassing its "lifetime," then technically they don't have to cover it.

Mopar refuses to qualify these terms in writing.

These plans seem to be excellent for the first few years after the manufacturer's warranties run out, but "lifetime" likely doesn't mean forever. Calculate the cost of the warranty + deductible for each repair visit, then everything covered above that is a good deal.

I very specifically asked Chryslerwarranties about covering the piston rings.

They very specifically said that the rings are covered as part of the Cylinder assembly.

I asked them to verify. They talked to their supervisor and came back and repeated that the rings are covered.

This irritated me since rings are designed to wear...precisely what they describe as not being covered. But the Cat isn't technically a "wear Item" but it isn't covered by the warranty.

In short...it certainly isn't perfect...or ideal. But, for me, it has covered nearly triple the cost of the warranty....and I'm only into it for two years...so far.

I'd imagine the catalytic converter is part of the "exhaust system," which is listed as not covered on the policy.

I never got an answer to whether the Trac-Lok limited slip differential is covered -- it has clutch packs that are definitely wear items, yet it isn't listed as an exclusion...so it should be covered.

The problem with asking ChryslerWarrantys.com, or any dealership for that matter, is that they're only selling the plan; they didn't write the policy. To get legitimate answers, we have to get it from Mopar Vehicle Protection Services. They don't have a customer service email address, and a letter I wrote to their office in Troy, MI went unanswered. Not terribly encouraging. I also emailed FCA customer support to try and get some answers in writing, but they wouldn't even touch it -- they said I have to call Mopar.

Great post THX

Question, I'm buying my first Jeep, a 2016 Unlimited. Tomorrow I sign off and pick it up. Dealer is quoting me 3500 to the life time. I checked online and called.

I’m told it cost 2250 and they mark it up 300. Making it 2550.

I just called my salesman and told him to have the finance guy call me back after giving him this info.

My question is, in CT where I am what does the dealer pay for this? Is it 2250 cost across the board or is each state diff? Bigger dealers get better pricing?

I need to know before I tell my salesman he just lost my sale if he doesn’t add it for 2600. A little profit is better than none.

There is some similarities. Like insurance, it is a risk management tool. And each individual has their own risk tolerances. And each individual has a preferred way to deal with their own tolerances.

It is also a risk sharing pool. Meaning, the system works on the fact that the majority who never have a claim or only very small claim, help pay the few that have a significant claim.

And again, much of the value is in the comfort level. If I buy insurance on my home and it never burns to the ground, I still got something out of it. I had the comfort of knowing that HAD it burned to the ground, I would have been covered.

Same with a warranty. Should you never need it, that is a good thing, not a bad. I threw a small first aid kit in my Jeep. I won't think it a waste if I never open it.

I purchased the extended lifetime warranty from my Dealer. The information that I received in writing, is very detailed and specific as to what it does and does not cover.

Please keep in mind that, any warranty only covers defects in parts and workmanship, applicable to what the vehicle was equipped with, when it left the factory. The exception is Mopar Dealer install upgrades.

It does not cover lack of maintenance caused failures, or abuse. It also does not cover MODS, with the exception of Mopar parts MODS, that have been installed by your Dealer. If you have a Mopar Mod (Mopar lift kit as a example) installed by your Dealer, make sure that you get a copy of that extended warranty coverage in writing.

Hi all

We just bought our 1st Jeep Wrangler, a 2016 unlimited sport with hard top, from our dealer here in VA this past week

I'm very interested in the extended lifetime Mopar warranty. The finance guy at closing wanted over $3000 for the warranty and I declined. I have read some posts on here about a couple of forum members who sell the same exact policy for significantly less

Could someone steer me in the right direction on how to contact them?

Also, we are planning on doing a 2 or 3" lift in the not too distant future, along with putting probably 35" tires on the Jeep. Does the lift or different (read: bigger) tires affect the lifetime warranty? We were told by the dealership ( a little misleading in my opinion) that we have to use the dealership and the Mopar 2" lift in order to not void the warranty on the jeep. Since then I have discovered that only the items associated with lifting the truck would be uncovered (struts springs suspension items etc. ) but the rest of the car would continue to be covered under the 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty.

MOPAR Vehicle Protection Plan

I also recently purchased (09/30) new 2015 JKU, and during closing agreed to take the following MOPAR Vehicle Protection Plan's for $1,299.

Essential Care - 3 Year ($300) + 6/75 Added Care Plus ($999).

Either plan can be cancelled within 60 days for full refund, and prorated thereafter.

The Essential Care provides up to 12x Oil Changes over 36 months, plus a few other benefits. After the closing I ran a quick spreadsheet check, and I will just reach the break even end of 3-Years, assuming oil change interval of 6,000 miles, 15,000 miles per year, and current dealer oil change cost of $37.95 each.

Q1. Dealer suggested changing Oil every season (4x per year) - yes, I certainly could do this - if I keep the program, but I don't think I need it.

The 6/75 Added Care Plus - As others have posted on this topic, it's a bet you want to be on the right side of! My thoughts are, 15K miles per year = 5 Years to mileage maximum - what's the probability something worth $999 is gonna need fixing? Assume normal driving with some light off roading.

Q2. Is the JKU's that high a repair risk within the 5 year window?

Old post, but wanted to add that I can pick mine up on my used 2013 JKU sport s with 47k for:

2465 - lifetime max care
1860 - lifetime care plus
890 - lifetime powertrain

I contacted Tom @ the kalamazoo MI jeep store (269-488-2080), and Clay R, they both quoted the exact same. I end up paying more because once you are out of the 12month/12k it goes up $150, and then they charge $100 so they make a little, so not bad at all.

sounds like it, you could call to ask Tom to clarify. I got an email back from Clay, he was able to knock off $100 on each of those, depending on which I go with. So I am looking at:

2365 - lifetime max care
1760 - care plus
790 - powertrain

If you are under 12/12 or whatever it is, you should be able to get 150 off these even. Nobody said not to tell anyone about my prices, so I don't feel I shouldn't share the numbers, since most others had anyway.

Bought lifetime on my 2014 it was approaching 35,200. I live in FL one of the states that you can transfer the warranty per state law, I think VA is the other. Can only transfer up to 100k, so I figure it will have some resale boost if anything vs another available jeep should I decide to sell.
